HomeMy Public PortalAbout12-14-1945 p58 OFFICE OF TRE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY, CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA FRIDAY, DECEMBER 14, 1945. The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular session in the office of the Board Friday, December 14 , 1945 at 9:00 A .M. Messrs . Earl' Keisker, S. W. Hodgin, and Winfield Urban being present, the following proceedings were had to wit: - The minutes of the preceding meeting were read and approved. It was moved by_Mr. Urban and seconded by Mr . Hodgin and so ordered, upon the recommendation of Fire Chief Williams that Robert E. Cook, who has finished his six months probationary period, be appointed a regular member of the Fire Department of the City of Richmond as of December 16, 1945. Upon the request of V. H. Juerling & Son Construction Company, permission was granted to temporarily block the alley in the rear of the new construction project for the Veach Store at 715 E. Main. It is understood that the barricades will be removed at night and lights placed on the barricades by the construction company. Pursuant to legal advertisement in the Richmond Palladium as pro- vided by law, the Board had an open hearing on Declaratory Resolution No. 3-1945 to vacate an alley described as follows: - "The alley running east and west between Northwest I and Northwest J Street, from Sheridan Drive to the first alley west of Sheridan Drive running north, in the City of Richmond, County of Wayne, and State of Indiana, which alley proposed to be vacated is more particularly described as follows : Beginning at the southeast corner of Lot 3 Jonathan Newmans Addition to theCity of Richmond, Ind., thence running westwardly along the south line of Lot 3 to the southwest corner of said Lot 3 said point being the east line of an alley running north, thence southward to the northwest corner of Lot 4 same addition, thence eastwardly along the north line of said Lot 4 to the west line of Sheridan Drive, thence northwardly along the west line of Sheridan Drive to the South- east corner of Lot 3, said point being the place of beginning." At the hearing there appeared Virgil Wicker, 81 N. W. J Street , Herman Marker, 49 N. W. J, Nellie Farlow, 83 N. W. J, Bertha French, 89 N. W. J, Charles Maddox,- 66 N. W. I , and Albert Burkhardt, City Street Commissioner, who expressed their views that the alley should be left open. In favor of the closing of the alley was Raymond Wilson t who was the petitioner seeking the closing of the alley. After hearing the evidence and giving the matter full consideration, it was moved by Mr. Hodgin and seconded by Mr. Urban and so ordered that DeclaratoryI/ Resolution No. 3-1945 be rescinded. After allowing claims in the amount of $7,6'68.89, upon proper motion, the Board adjourned. sident Attest: e e -ary
