AND SAFETY, CITY OF RI C EMOND, INDIANA
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 30, 1945.
The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond;
Indiana, met in regular session in the office of the Board Friday,
November 30, 1945 at 9:00 A.M. Messrs . Earl Keisker, S. W. Hodgin,
and Winfield Urban being present, the following proceedings were
had to wit: -
The minutes of the preceding meeting. were read and approved.
John McCurdy, of 220 N. W. 13th Street, who operates a grocery
store at the same address , appeared before the Board with a . request
that a lighting system be put in on N. W. Thirteenth Street between
Main and Peacock Road. This matter was referred to the City Engineer,
City Controller, and Chief of Police Duckett. .

Mrs . Charles Winzer appeared before _ the Board seeking information
as to whether or not she could connect a sewer from the basement in'
the building located at 425 Main Street into the city sewer. This mat-
ter was referred to City Engineer Hodgin for report.
It was moved by Mr. Urban and seconded by Mr. Hodgin, and it was
so ordered, that the following recommendation of Chief of Police
Duckett, which results from a request made by the Starr Piano Company,
be adopted, to wit:
"That all parking be prohibited on the west side of South First
Street from where the city maintenance ends back north to the entrance
of the Starr Piano parking lot."
Chief of Police Ellis Duckett recommended to the Board the appoint-
ment for the probationary period of six months of the following men as '
probationary patrolmen on the metropolitan police force of the City of
Richmond: - Dan Anthony Pditrione , James R. Saxton, Daniel A . Harper,
and that Dan Mitrionets and James R. Saxton' s probationary appointments
commence Dec. 1, 1945 and that Daniel A . Harper' s probationary appoint-
ment commence Dec . 16, 1945 and that the salary pertaining to all
appointments shall be 0185.00 per month. It was moved by Mr. Hodgin
and seconded by Mr. Urban that these three appointments be accepted as
probationary appointments and it was so ordered.
The following communication was tendered to the Board of Public
Works by Ramsey'.McDonal d: -
• "To the Board of Public Works Nov. 30, 1945
Civil City of Richmond
Wayne County, Ind. "
Gentlemen:
I, Ramsey McDonald, now employed by the Civil City of Richmond,
Wayne County, Indiana, and more particularly employed as Chief
Radio Operator in conjunction with City r'olice Department, do
hereby submit my resignation, effective as of Dec. 1 , 1945.

Per. Urban moved that the resignation be accepted as of midnight,
November 30th. Mr. Hodgin seconded this motion and the resigna-
tion was accepted unanimously by the Board.
11/ The Board received the following communication from the
Mayor: -
"To the Board of Public Works & Safety Nov. 30, 1945.
City of Richmond
Gentlemen:
This is to inform you that I have this day appointed Ramsey
McDonald Supervisor of the Police Radio Station on part time
employment at a salary of g150.00 per month.

The Board concurred in the following: that because of the
large number of prior requests , some of which have been pending
for as long as four years , for the installation of lights at
various sections of the City of Richmond, the recent request of
Mrs . J. F. Beals for a light below G Street on the Abington Pike
has been temporarily held in abeyance until the Board can ascer-
tain thru the Supt. of the Light Plant what the situation is per-
taining to securing materials .
John H. Niewoehner made verbal request that a light be in-
stalled at the alley intersection on South G Street between South
8th and South 9th Streets . This matter was referred to the Traffic
Division and City{; Engineer Hodgin.
It was moved by Mr . Hodgin and seconded by Mr. Urban and so
ordered that the Declaratory Resolution No. 4, 1945 be adopted for
the vacation of three alleys surrounding Lots Nos . 22 - 27 inclusive
in the William Griffin Addition and a portion of Indiana Avenue, and
a portion of the alley adjacent to and east of Lot . No. 36 in accord-
ance with blueprint attached to the Declaratory Resolution, all ex-
penses incident. to to be born by the Richmond F'ireproof,Door Com-
pany, the petitioner.
Fire Chief Harry Williams presented the resignation of Dudley
Brusher, from the Fire Department, as follows :
Nov.. 30, .1945
"I, Dudley Brusher , hereby hand in my resignation from the
Richmond Fire Department effective Friday, November 30, 1945.

Upon motion made by Mr. Urban and seconded by Mr. Hodgin, the
resignation was accepted by the Board, effective as of Nov. 28th.

Gentlemen :
The Richmond Fireproof Door Company is desirous of
closing the following alleys and street . Petition to
vacate the three alleys surrounding lots from 22 to
27 inclusive , 6 illiam Griffin Addition. A proportion
of the alley adjacent to and east of lot 06 .
That portion of Indiana Avenue from the east line of the
15 foot alley first east of Northwest 5th St. to the
eastern terminum of Indiana Avenue .
Mr. S. V . Rodgin suggested I submit a letter to the Board
in this manner.
