HomeMy Public PortalAbout11-23-1945 2 OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY, CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 23rd, 1945. The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular session in the office of the Board Friday, November 23, 1945 at 9:00 A.M. Messrs . Earl Keisker, S. W. Hodgin, and Winfield Urban being present , the following proceedings were had to wit: I/ - The minutes of the preceding meeting were read and approved. Mr. Floyd Sykes, of the International Harvester Company, appear- ed before the Board seeking permission to place a loading dock on the Thirteenth Street side of the International Harvester Company as per specifications filed with the Board. Upon recommendation of City Engineer S. W. Hodgin, and with the understanding that the Internation- al Harvester Company assumes all liability from any damages occurring or resulting from said extension, the Board granted permission for the erection of the same . This permission is granted subject to its- re- moval upon written notification from the City of Richmond. Mr. Hodgin moved, and Mr. Urban seconded the motion, that Mr. Ross , Supt. of the Sewage Disposal Plant, be authorized to renew the City' s contract for the Sewage Disposal Plant with the Standard Oil Company, and it was so ordered. Upon recommendation of Chief of Police Duckett, it was moved by Mr. Urban and seconded by Mr. Hodgin that Francis M. Dawson be appoint- ed as temporary special patrolman to serve at the radio station at a salary of $185.00 per month commencing December 1, 1945, and it was so ordered. Chief of Police Duckett recommended that the street lights in the down town district be left on until 12:30 A.M. instead of being turned off at 11:00 P.M. This matter was referred to the~;City Control- ler, City Engineer, and Chief of Police for further investigation. Upon recommendation of Chief of Police Duckett , the Board in- structed the Street Commissioner to confer with the Chief of Police and establish a "no parking" zone - directly- across from Civic Hall in such width as they deem fit. Mr. Hodgin moved the adoption of the declaratory resolution to vacate an alley described as follows: - O. "The alley running east and west between Northwest "I" and Northwest "J" Street, from Sheridan Drive to the first alley west of Sheridan Drive running north, in -the City of Richmond, County of Wayne , and State of Indiana, which alley proposed to be vacated is more particularly described as follows , to wit : - Beginning at the southeast corner of Lot (3) Jonathan Newman' s Addition to the City of Richmond, Ind. , thence running westwardly along the south line of Lot (3) to the southwest corner of said Lot (3) said point being the east line of an alley running north, thence southward to the northwest corner of Lot (4) same addi- tion, thence eastwardly along the north line of -said Lot (4) to the west line of Sheridan Drive thence northwardly along the west line of Sheridan Drive to the southeast corner of Lot (3) , said point being the place of beginning." 63 Mr. Urban seconded the motion, and it was so ordered with the under- standing that the adjoining property owners pay any expense attend- ant to legal advertising. There being no bids received pursuant to legal publicity by the ` City for the purchase of an automobile for the Police Department, it was moved by Mr. Urban and seconded by Mr. Hodgin and so ordered that the Chief of Police be authorized to go onto the open market and purchase an automobile to meet the specifications pursuant to said advertisement. A request was made by Mrs . J. F. Beals , who lives below G Street on the Abington Pike, for the installation of a street light. This matter is referred to the City Engineer, Chief of Police, and City Controller. A request was received, signed by the adjoining property owners , for the installation of a street light on the Henley Road North at a point on said street at the southeast entrance of Glen Miller Park, being at the northwest corner of VanZant ' s Second Addition to the City of Richmond. Mr. Hodgin moved and Mr. Urban seconded, and it d5-- y, was so ordered, that this light be installed, and the Clerk is in- structed to notify the Supt . of the Light Plant. Upon motion by Mr. Urban and second by Mr. Hodgin, it was agreed that the City would go into a lease with Paul Krick and Ralph Krick, a partnership, for that part of Lots 1, 2 and 3 of Anna Madden' s Sub- Division lying west of Randolph Street and that the tenancy so created would be subject to cancellation by the City at will and that the annual rental thereof is to be determined later.
