The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular session in the office of the Board Friday September 14th. 1945 at 9:00v0tcl.ock A. M. Messrs Winfield Urban & S. W. .Hodgin being' pr`sesent'.the::•following proceedings were had I/ to-wit: The minutes of the preceding meeting were read and approved. Mr. Lawrence Hawley, local manager of the Western Union, appeared before the Board and requested that a restricted parking zone, for two cars , be provided along the curb in front of the Western Union Office on North' 9th. Street. It was the desire that this space be reserved for the use of the messengers . This request was referred th the Traffic Division, for recommendations, Mr. Duckett was of the opinion that the arrangement would be un- satisfactory but would give the matter further consideration and report. Mr. Ross recommended that a depth indicator be included with the alternating switch controls for the Earlham Pump Station which was approved for purchaseSeptember '7th.. ,The depth indicator cost to be an additional $10, making the complete installation 895. The Board approved the addition. - Fire Chief Williams presented the application of Tames J. Shores fora position on the fire department, and recommended his appointment as a temporary fireman, with the appropriate rate of pay. Based on such recommendation it was moved by Mr. .Hodgin, with second by Mr. Urban, that Mr. Shores be appointed as a tem- porary fireman as of September 16th. 1945. The motion carried. Chief Williams advised that Sylvia Sticco, who was serving his probationary period as a fireman, was called into military service June 25th. , 1945 but that his probationansy period did not end until Euly 15th. , he having started February 15th. Mr. Williams recommended that the Board grant Mr. Sticco his full senority rights the same as if he had completed his probationary period and that such rights supercede that of others who may have been employed, in temporary service, since Mr. Sticco's date of em- ployment, i. e. February 15th. 1945. On proper action it was so ordered. On his request MR. Williams was instructed to negotiate the purchase of a supply of fire hoae before the end of this year. Mr. Duckett recommended the installation of traffic lights at the points referred to by councilmen in last weeks minutes of the Board. The acting secretary was instructed to take up with the State Highway Department concerning the installation atI/ 13th. and Main Streets , and also concerning the change from flasher lights to "Stop and Go" at 16th. and Main. Mr. Duckett also recommended that the State Highway Department be contacted with respect to installing a traffic island, with signs, at the intersection of South H Street, Liberty Pike and South 5th. Street. Street Commissioner was authorized to install conspicuous traffic signs at the intersection. of Fridge Avenue and the White- water Boulevard. He was also instructed to install traffic "Stop" signs at the intersection of South P and South 6th. Streets , the signs to be planed on the P Street side . 37 Permit was granted to R. T. Kirtley to cut the curb, for a driveway, at Tract 399 on the west- side of South' 5th. Street, between South.
