HomeMy Public PortalAbout02-11-1944 424 OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF WORKS CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, FEBRUARY 11TH, 1944. The Board of Public Works and Safetyof the City_of Richmond, Indiana, met in the office of said Board, Friday, February llth, 1944, at 9:00 o'clock A. M. --- Messrs. Winfield UrBan, Earl Keisker and S. W. Hodgin being present -the following proceedings were had to-wit;' The minutes of the preceding meeting were read and approved. Mr. Atwood Jenkins appeared before the Board in the interest of Earlham College stating the college had received statements for certain fire runs *ich he believed should be canceled as it had been the usual proceedure of the Board in the past to make no charges for runs to Earlham College proper for such service, this service however did not include sery4e®mtetheir farm property on which their insurance policies coverd. The matter was referred to Fire Chief Harry Williams for a report to the Board later for considerations as to location of fire & etc. On the recommendation of Park Superintendent Frisby the Board approved the cutting of a tree located in front of 75 Northwest G Street by a Mr. Ridgeway. Street Commissioner Karl Meyers recommended that the flasher light which was installed at South 1st& National Road and had been removed after an accident some time ago should be re-installed in order to attract the attention of the traveling public giving a warning that they were approching a deadend street, Mr. Meyers also stated that the small reflector which was there is not sufficient during heavy traffic. The matter was referred to City Engineer Hodgin for a report to the Board later. The matter of the Storm Sewer on South 23rd Street being used by property owners in that district when the Sanitary Sewer was available was referred to City Engineer Hodgin. The following letter was presented to the Board from the L. H. Burk Co. of Cambridge City , Indiana. Stating; We have carefully noted your specifications requesting bids for the painting of the Radio Tower located at the Richmond, Indiana, Police Station , and respectfully submit our bid as follows, with the understanding that the City of Richmond shall furnish all paints used in painting same and cleaning tower thoroughly. Applying two coats of paint in two colors $275.00 Weather permitting work to start at once, completion in approx- imately in three weeks Signed --- L. H. Burk The Board approved the bid for painting the Police Radio Tower subject to suitable contract. A letter was presented to the Board from Robert Hudson stating repairs to the sidewalk along his property located at Sixth & Main Street abbuting on South Sixth Street would be repaired as soon as a contractor was available. (cont 'd) 420 The following resolution was unanimously approved by the Board of Public Works and Safety BE IT RESOL D BY THE BOARD OF PUBLIC INORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, THAT THE FOLIOWING NAMES MEN TO-WIT: Ray Zeyen , Fred T. Carr, Richard Weslor, Russell Car, Earl Toney, Leland Lowe, Wayne Duff, Karl Kaiser, Wilbur Palmer, Glenn A. Bickel, L. K. Nilliams, Clinton Strittmatter, Wayne Freeman, Charles R. Klinger L. J.Baysinger, H. E. Pickering, Carl H. Meier, Leland E. Woods, Henry J. Miller, Alferd J. Lee, L. E. Lincoln, Kenneth A. Young, L. C. Turner be appointed_ as special patrolman without pay or pension rights during the hours from seven P. M. to eleven P. M. on the 15th day of February, 1944 for the purpose of taking an examination offered by the United States Government to qualify as third-class Radio Operators , said examination to be held in the Council Chambers in the City Hall at Richmond, Indiana, Dated this llth day of February, 1914. Bids were presented to the Board for the material for the installation of Traffic Lights to be installed at North 5th & D Streets also at the intersection of Richmond Avenue and Sheridan Street as follows; MASTER EQUIPMENT CO. PricegTetal--- $476.00 The bids were referred to a committee composed of City Engineer, City Controller, & Chief of Police, they to 'confer with Mr. Stevens Superintendent of the Light Plant, and tabulate the same and make rec- ommendations to the Board at the next regular meeting. The matter of the:.vacation of an alley between Northwest D street & Richmond Avenue leading west from Northwest 9th Street was referred to the City Plan Commission. The matter of the vacation of an alley leading from Northwest 4th Street to Northwest c5th Street North of Northwest E Street was referred 11/ to the City Plan Commission for consideration.
