The Board. of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond,
Indiana., met in the office of said Board, Friday, August 20th, 1943,
at 9;00 o'clock A. M. --- S. W. Hodgin. Earl Keisker and Winfield
Urban Being present the following proceedings were had to-wit ..
The minutes of the preceding meeting were read and, approved.
Mr. James Alyea Superintendent of the City Bus Lines appeared
before the Board requesting that no parking signs b,e installed. which
could be used for certain periods of the day East of North Sth Street
on Main Street for the xurpose .of accomodating at least 4 busses which
arrive at that location in the. act of transporting passengers to various
parts of the City,Mr. Alyea stated these ,signs could be removed and only
used for certain times when the traffic demended.The matter was referred
to the City Engineer and Police Chief for consideration end recommends-
, . tion. •
' The following letter from W. E. Ross to Mayor Britten was referred to
the Board by Mayor Britten for consideration;& recommendation;
• It has been necessary for us to remove the, diffuser plates in lower
lift of 'aerators; In order to accomplish this it is necessary to pump
out the licetid in the tanks and also lower the ground waterlevel around
the tanks. for this pumping , a. four inch gasoline drive hump is used
which must be kept in operation twenty-four hours a day. This has required
more gasoline than was anticipated and we are therefore requesting that an
additional $100 for this -emergency gasoline be taken from the 8ontingency
Fund and placed at OUT disposal, since our funds are almost exausted. '
TTrless unforeseen difficulties are encountered , we will be able to finish •
the'repair work within that amount. .

After due cdnsider ation the Board. approved the request as present.e.d,
'by Mr. Ross.
On the recommendation of Fire Chief Harry Williams the Boara appro-
ved the permanent appointment of Everett H. Biddle as City Fireman at the
regular salary of $165.00 per month, effective September 1st, 19)13. •
On the recommendation of Street Commissioner Meyers the Board ordered
that therm be no dumping west of North 10th Street Along the Boulevard by
various citi^ens.
On the recommendation of Street Superintendent Meyers the Board
instructed the Clerk. to notify at least three dealers. for proposals
for the furnishing of 10 tons of. Reek Salt in bulk form far +he use of
the Street Department the Board., detign.2.ting September 3rd.,l9)3:a t 9 c 30'A - M.
as time for the receiving of bids for the same. •
The matter of a bash obstructing the view of drivers, located at the
the end of the Doran on the North side , the same being referred to Street
Commissioner Meyers.

City of Richmond, Indian°: , that it is deemed necessary to improve
the West Side of Northwest 16th Street, by constructing a cement
sidewalk five foot width• Also Cement Curb and Gutter. Prom West
Main Street north to a. 25'f of Streets , in accordance with the Profile
details, drawings and specifications on file i.n the office of the demartment
of Board. of Public .Works of said City:

to clear the First AlleY'North''of='hi.s building running West from
South Second Street thereby making the alley available for traffics
After allowing claims in the amount of SlF,537.112 the Board
