CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, •
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 26th,1943
The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Ind-
iana, met. in the office of said Board , Friday, February 26th, 1943,
at 9:00 o'clock A. M. S. W. Hodgin,Earl Keisker and Winfield Urban
being present the following proceedings were had to-wit;
The minutes of the preceding meeting was read and approved.
The following report was presented to the Board from Fire Chief
Harry Williams:

To the Mayor & Board of Public Works and Safety;
Gentlemen:
In reference to the vacancy caused by the retirement
. of Assistant Fire Chief Harry Aikin Ihave the following recommendations
to make.for your consideration. 'That Earl Miller be promoted from Lieu-
tenant' at Number Five Engin Co. to that of Assistant Chief. That Franklin
Walls be promoted to Lieutenant at Number Five Engin Company. That Wm.
Toney be promoted to Lieutenant on the Aerial Co, for the duration of the
War , to take the place of Charles Bostick who was inducted into the
armed forces. All promotions to become effective March 1st, 1943.

On yher,.:,ecommendation of the Fire, Chief , Harry Williams,the Board
unanimously approved the promotions of the various Firemen, as recomm-
ended..
Mr. Edd •Ross,Supt. ,of the Sewer Disposal Plant reported to the Board
that the 1531ectric Pump House in connection with the sewer located near •
Earlham College had been broken into and there was great danger of some
one being- injured by the high voltage line therein.
The Board ordered that a portion of the windows. be closed up so as .
to prevent entrance through the windows and asign be placed thereon
giving notice of the danger in contacting the high voltage line. •
Friday, February 26th 1943 , being the date designated by the Board
for the receiving of bids:for material for the use of the Street Depart-
ment in pursuant with the advertisement February 15th and 22nd, 1943,are
as follows;

Mr. Urban moved that the bids be referred to City Engineer Hodgin
for tabulation and recommendations9 with a proper second the motion
was approved.
After due consideration Mr. Hodgin recommended that the bids on
the various materials be accepted provided the material cannot be
purchased for a lesser amount than the bids presented.
. The Board unanimously approved the recommendation of Mr. Hodgin.
After allowing claims in the amount of $ 30,347.8 on proper
motion they adjourned.
