OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF WORKS
. CITY OF RICHMOND, IND"I ANA,
JULY 17TH, 1942
The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond,
Indiana, met in the office of said Board, Friday, July 17th, 1942,
at 9t00 o'clock A. M. Messrs. Winfield Urban and S. W. Hodgin being
present the following proceedings were had to-wit;
The minutes of the preceding meeting-were read and approved.
Mr. Don Bell appeared before the Board in the interest of the
City's Insurance. Policies.
Mr Irvin Kleiman Navy Recruiting Officer for the U. S Navy
appeared before the Board requesting permission to stencil Navy
recruting signs on the "sidewalk at each corner on Main Street to
encourage enlistment.
"ae Board recomnended that the Local Cas 'Co. be reeu.ested to
repair South A Street-where it was tore up for installation of. a neW :
line between South 15th and 16th Streets, also on South 18th Street.
The matter of neenboving: the Street Car Rails on Hunt and Ridge
Street was discussed and taken under advisement.
The matter of placing more bycycle racks on various streets
• was referred to the City Engineer and Chief of Police.

The Board unanimously approved the transfer-of $358.41 from the
Improvement Bond Sinking Find to the Barrett Law Rolls.
The Board unanimously approved and adopted the following reso-
lution;
W REAS; THE LAWS OF THE STATE OF INDIANA provide for the Board
of Works of any City of the second class to prescribe the working hours
for the members of the Police Department in the event of 2, public emer •
-
gency and.
WHEREAS, the United States of America is now at war with foreign
enemies.
NOW THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Board of Works of the City of
Richmond:, Indiana, that an emergency does exist and it is ordered that
the members of the Polic Department of said. City be required to be on
duty a minimum of nine hours out of each twenty-four hours subject to
the rules of the Department ae -'e-termined by the Chief. of Police rela-
tive to days off , vacations q,Asickiess, injury and etc. ' Ill
After allowing claims in the amount of $8,562:E5 on pro-
per motion they adjourned.
