FRIDAY,OCTOBER 24th '1941.
The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond,
Indiana, met in .theoffice of said Board, Friday, October 24th, 1941,
at 9:00o'clock A. M. Messrs. S. W. Hodgdon, Winfield Urban and
Earl Keisker being present the following proceedings were had to-wit;
The minutes of the preceeding meeting wer read and approved..
A Committee was present representing the Retail Merchants
Association requesting permission to string lights down Main Street
for the Xmac Decoration, the Board gave their consent to the appro-
val of the same.
Street Commissioner Meyers recommended the corner curb at the:
Northeast corner of llthand South A Street be moved back for the
benefit of traffic making a right turn at that location,the Board
approved the the same. •
On the recommendation of Police Chief Duckett, 'the Board app-
ointed Dalton Stevens as a Police Officer to fill the vacancy created
by the death of Joe Bates, he to serve the usual probationary period
of 6 months for the sum o '$130.00 per month9 the same effective Nov-
ember. I, 1941.
A request for a light to be installed West of the intersection
of Common's Road-and East-HavenAvenue was referred to the City En
gineer Hodgin.
Bids for the installation of lenoleum on the old Court Room
down stairs were presented as follows;

After taking the bids under consideration the Board
awarded the contract for furnishing the lenoleum as per
specifications to. the Weiss Furniture Store, on low bid
for the sum of $315.70.
The Board ordered the Building Inspector to make the
necessary arrangements for the repairs of the roof on the City
Building with the Roland Swisher Company on their alternate bid
for the sum of $g92.4o their bid being the only bid submitted.
A petit-ion .was presented for• Ornamental Lights to be installed
in the Peacock Terrace Addition and referred to the City Engineer
and Mr. Stevens Supt. of the Light Plant.
A request for alight to be installed at thy Alley intersection
on North C Street between North 21st 8:22nd. Streets was referred to
City Engineer Hodgin. (cont'd)

designated by the Board for the receiving of bid on equipment for
the use of the Street Department, Park Department, Police Depart-
ment, Building Inspector, Weights ans Measures and the Dispisal

The Board appointed a committee composed of the Mayor, Street
Commissioner, Chief of Police Department, Park Superintendent,
Controller, City Engineer and Superintendent of the Disposal Plant
to tabulate the bids and make recommendations for the purchase of
the various equippment.
After due consideration the committee recommended that the
Austin Western Patrol-.Sweeper be purehased for the use of the
Street Department with the extra equippment fot the sum of- $4,020.00
with a two percent discount if paid within 30 days from delivery.
•The Board approved the recommendation; of the committee and ordered
-the the Austin Western Patrol Sweeper be purchased from the Indiana
-Wheel & Rim Company all as specified for the total sum of $4,020.00.
The Committee recommended that it be given more time for the
,consideration of the bids on the other equippment which was appro-
-ved. The Clerk was instructed to compile the various amounts of the
bids and present them to the committee.at a later date,
After allowing claims in the amount of $8,791.7S on proper
•
motion they adjourned.
