OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF WORKS
CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA,
THURSDAY, DULY 3rd, 1941.
A called meeting of the Board of Public Works and
Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in the
office of said Board Thursday, July 3rd, 1941, at '9 :00
o'clock A. M. Those present were S. W. Hodgin, Winfield
Urban and Earl Keisker-.
The minutes of the preceeding meeting were read
and approved.
There being a vacancy in the Fire Department of
the City of Richmond, Fire Chief Williams presented
numerous applications and the Board took the same under
advisement pending further action. -
A complaint was made by Jesse Yost, . a resident of
Morton Lake and Park Addition, of a misnsecand abuse of
the bridge at the West end of Morton Lake, causing a
nuisance to the residents, and a request was made that
a barricade be placed at the South end of the bridge.
Upon motion duly made and seconded it was so
ordered and the matter was transferred to theStreet
• Department.
Fire Chief Williams reported that windstorm had
done damage to the tower at No . 4 Hose House and the
matter was duly transferred to the Insurance Department.
It was moved and seconded and unanimously carried
and so ordered that in substitution for John Matlack
the Matlack Insurance Agency be permitted to receive
pro rata commissions in the same manner in which John
Matlack received the same under the Insurance Plan of
the City of Richmond. A letter was sent to Roland
" Cutter, Secretary of the Richmond Fire and Casualty
Insurance Association, informing him or this move.
At 9 :30 o'clock A. M. , the Board of Works, pur-
suant to its published notice, received and opened
bids for fire hose and the bids were as follows :

Queen City Supply Company bid for treated hose at
$1. 15 a foot and for untreated hose at $1.10 a foot.
The bid was accompanied by a certified check for $100.
A bid of the Eureka Fire Hose Division accompanied
by a certified check for 1100 - Southland at 93V per
foot, Northern Jacket at 11.00 per foot, White Oak at
11.05 per foot, Hultex at 11.10 per foot and P?idland
Jacket at 11.15 per foot. Northland at 98V a foot,
Superior Jacket at 11.00 a foot, Red Oak at $1.05 a
foot, Surprise Jacket at $1.10 a foot and Eagle Jacket
at 11. 15 a foot.
The .Bi-Tnteral Fire Hose Company accompanied by
a certified check for 1100 - D-J-Maderite at $1.05 a
foot, D-J-Duro at $1.10 a root and D-J-Ideal at . 1.20
a foot.
The bid for Goodrich Silvertown Stores accompan-
ied by certified for 1100 - Goodrich Vitaflex at
$1. 10 a foot , Goodrich Vitaseal at $1.15 a foot,
Goodrich Planet at 95/ a foot and, Goodrich Tidal at
$1.00 a foot.
Bid of the Fabric Fire Hose Company accompanied
by certified check for $100 - Buckeye at 11.15 per
foot, Yale at 11.10 per foot , Colonial at $1.00 a
foot, Spar at 93V a foot, Spar treated at 84V a foot,
Elkshead at 68i per foot and Elkshead treated at
83i per foot.
The bids, after being offered and duly filed
on motion made and seconded, were referred to a
committee appointed by the President of the Board.
The President of the Board of Public Works and
Safety referred the bids to a commitee composed of
the Fire Chief and the City Engineer for selection.
It was so ordered.

It was moved and seconded that the meeting be
adjourned for five minutes.

The committee reported to the Board with a
recommendation that the bid of the Fabric Fire Hose
Company through the Queen City Supply Company of
Richmond, Indiana, for 600 feet of Buckeye Hose at W..15
per foot be accepted.
Earl Keisker moved that the bid recommended by the
committee be accepted by the Board. It was seconded
and unanimously earried and so ordered that the bid as
above referred to be accepted.
Letters were sent to the companies not receiving
contracts with their certified checks enclosed.
After allowing claims in the amount of $6,723.91
on proper motion the Board adjourned.
