CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA,
FRIDAY, NAY 23RD, 1941.
The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of
Richmond, Indiana, met in the office of said Board Friday,
May 23rd, 1941, at 9 :00 o ' clock A. M. Messrs. S. W. Hodgin,
Winfield Urban and Earl Keisker being present the following
proceedings were had to-wit; •
The minutes of the preceeding meeting were read and II/
approved.
A petition was presented to the Board from Sam Jaffe
requesting the vacation pf. Pool Street running from Fort
Wayne Avenue to North 10th St. The Board ordered. a.. Declara-
tory Resol ition be.. prepared; and" presented : in the usual.rianner.
Mr. Don Bell was present in the interest of the City' s
insurance Policies.
A petition was presented to the Board requesting the
installation of a Water Main on South 4th Street from L
to N Street the petition being signed by Raymond Adams
and Seven other interested citizens stating in the petition
that they will agree to take water from the main as soon
as the installation can be made, by the Water Co. The Board
approved the installation of a : inch-Water main=-at the said
location: a Fire Hydrant to be placed at 4th & South M Street,
subject to the approval of the Fire Chief. -
A request to have 'the Fire Hydrant removed front,~front.fof
226 South 7th Street was referred to the Fire Chief;
A request for the installation of a Water Main on South
12th Street from H to J street was referred to the City Engineer
Fire Chief and, Richmond Water Works Corp.
The Board approved an increase in the salaries of Police
Radio Operators Richard Maddox and Leroy Risenburg which had
been recommended by the Chief of Police after they had received
their First Class Radio Telegraph Operators License, also an
increase in the salary of Ramsey McDonald who has been acting
as Chief Operator, the same having been provided for in the
Bmdget, effective. on & after June 1st, 1941.
A letter was presented to the Board from State Police
Officer Loren Grim: requesting the approval of the installation.
of a Two Way Radio set in his car. The matter was referred to
City Attorney Earl Keisker for a report.
• A two hour parking limit was approved by the . Board on
recommendation of the Traffic Division as previously peti-
tioned for on North 8th Street from Elm to North E Street
on th East side of the Street and from North 8th Street'.to
North 9th Street pn the South side of North E Street.

A letter was received from the National Automatic
Tool Co . recuesting that South N Street be repaired
along the frontage of their factory since the C & 0
Rail Road made some repairs to the approach of their
tracks• it would be well to the have the street leveled
of with the approaches and since machines have been
parked on the South 'side of the Street it had become
very rough. They also stated the factory,would be.
closed down fora vacation from June 28th to July 7th
and requested the repairs be made during this time.
The matter Was referred to the Street Department.
The Board rejected a request by Mike Derago to
_establish a Fruit Stand on the ground occupied by the
Old High School Building. onhNorth•:8th Street.
The Street Department was instructed to clear
a place from the Fire Hydrant located on Sheridan Street
and the Pennsylvania Rail Road to the dump along White-
water Drive for the use of the Fire Department in case
of a fire at the dump.
A letter was received by the Board calling attention
to the dusty conditions at llth and North E streets on a
lot occupied by ah -Oil Co. and operated by a Tarr. M. J Sho-
walter, the same being taken under advisement.
The Board designated May 31, 1941, as Pay-day as the
' regular Pay-day appears on Sunday June 1st .
The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works '
and Safety was ordered held on 'Thursday. May 29th as
the regular meeting day 'appears on, Declaration Day May
30th.
A request to cut the Curb was granted to Arthur
Reed located at 417 Southwest 4th Street to a width. of
14 feet.
A request to cut the Curb to a width of 12 feet
was ' granted to Loran Grimm 292 & 293 Reevstbn Add.
Two petitions having been referred from the Common
Council recuesting the oiling and resurfacing of South
7th Street between 0 and Q Streets and Perry Street
between 9th and 13th Streets respectrully was referred
to the Street "epartment .
The matter or posting the grounds around the )is-
posal Plant was referred to the City Attorney.
After allowing claims in the amount of. $13, 697 .22
on proper motion they adjourned.
