OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF WORKS
CITY OF RICHIVTOND, INDIANA, -
FRIDAY, MAY. 24, 1940 .
The f3oard of Public Works and Safety of the City
of Richmond,_ Indiana, met in the office of 'said
Board Friday, May 24th, 1940, at 9 :00 o' clock A. M.
Messrs . John R. Britten, Simeon W. Hodgin and Henry
U. Johnson being present the following proceedings
were had to-wit ; _
The minutes of the preceeding meeting Were read
and approved. 0
Mr. Dick Gimbel of the .Y.M.C..A. and Pzr.- Roscoe
Fowler of the Crosley'-Radio Corp. were present in
the interest of the new Soft Ball Diamond *in Clear
Creek Park, stating the official opening would be
tune eth,l940.
The Board ordered proper legal advertising for
equipment to clean' the roots, out of: the Sewera,fgr
the Street Department, bids to be accepted j'une _7th,
1940, at - 10 o ' clock A. M.
A letter was presented to the Board from Earl •
Keisker. General Chairman of the Bayne County Chapter
of -the American Red Cross requesting permission to
park a trailer along the curb on the North side of
Main Street between the Dickinson Trust Co. and the
Ritz Theatre,- the same to be used for headquarters
for the receiving of contributions. On Motion by
Hodgin, second by Johnson the request was approved. • '
Applications for parking privileges was presented
to the Board by Dr. Keith, Dr. Holland, Dr. Whallon,
Dr. Markley, Dr. Hall, Dr. Squire , Unser & 1lalterman,
Rainbow Market& Palladium-Item Publishing Co. The
matter was referred to the Police Department. -
Mr.T.Villiam G. Bate Superintendent of the City
Schools and la's Ray Stevens Superintendent of the
-City Light Plant were present in the interest of
the installation of lights along ,`Jhitewater -Bsuisvard.
Mr. Stevens presented plans for the Whitewater
Boulevard lights showing a small four foot parkway

' in the center of the Bpulevard- where the lights are
to be installed, ,shrubbery to be placed. along the same.
Estimates by the General Electric Co. and the Westing-
. house Electric Co . for material was -also presented.
The plans presented by. Mr. Stevens along with the esti
mate by the Westinghouse Electric Co was approved.
After some discussion it was decided that two Curb
Lights -along the School Property should be installed at
the west end of the South G Street Bridge,also curb
lights along the School Property of South West•.G Street
and curb lights along the School Property of. South West

It was estimated the Civil City and the School
City' s sh. Pe'shares for installing all the lights
including the Boulevard lights,were about 4 1500
each, the Light Plant furnishing the rest of the
expense. The Civil City and the School City are
to include each amounts in their Budgets for Year
1941, the same being approved by the Board of Works
and Mr. iJate Superintendent of City Schools.
