HomeMy Public PortalAbout05-03-1940 120 OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF WORKS CITY OF RICHMOND, INDI4NA, FRIDAY, MAY 3RD, '1940. • The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in the office of said Board Friday, May 3rd, 1940, at 9 :00 o ' clock A. M. Messrs. John R. Britten Simeon W. Hodgin and Henry U. Johnson being present the following proceedings were had to-wit ; The reading of the minutes _of' the :Prece'eding..meet- ing :was .di'spensed with. Mr. John Matlack was present in the interest of the insurance policies on the boilers at the City Building and the Green House in Glenn Miller Park, stating his company had recommended Steel Boilers be installed in both places, there being a possible saving bn the premiums of approximately 43.35 on the boiler in the Park and 4207.35 on the boiler at the City Building over a period of three years.The matter was taken under advisement and an investigation is to be made, as to the cost for installation . City Attorney Johnson was instructed to notify the. property owners to repair the sidewalk in front of the Arlington Hotel. Mr. B. J. Marks was present demonstrating Man- hole Covers in matters of Safety. Mr. Charles Hart Street Commissioner reported a portion of junk had acumulated at the Street Department Garage and could "be:._sold;he_was'_. nstructed to ;et.an estimate on the same and advertise for the sale of if necessary. A letter was presented to the Board as follows : Gentlemen; Richmond Commandry No. 8 of the Knight Templars of the State of Indiana will act as host to the State Conclave of the Knight Templars of the State of Indianaon May 8th and 9th 1940, and it is contemplated the Knight Templars will parade on May 8th, in the City of Richmond. It is desired by said Commandery to erect a reviewinc stand app- roximately 32 feet by 14 feet on North.'A':Street near llth Street on the North side of North A Street. Mrs . W. Gaar of this City has given her 'consent verbally for theerection of this temporary reviewing stand. Also i is desired to place temporary bleacher seats on the North side of North A Street across llth Street immediately west of said reviewing stand. ( cont'd ) 121 The Richmond Commandery No. 8 of Knight Templars therefore respectfully request permission from this Board to erect such a reviewing stand and bleacher seats to be used on said date and asked that the Board kindly give this matter its immediately attention. The board approved the erection of a temporary rev- iewing stand on the North side of North A Street between 11th and 12th Streets , also in front of the Reid Memorial Church on the North side of North A Street between llth Street and the first alley West, but no stands are to be erected across llth, Street. A petition dated April 29th, 1940, with the signature of 11 citizens was presented to the Board, requesting the installation of a Sewer in the territory North of North J Street to the alley west of Hunt Street, to northwest 5th Street, the matter was referred to City. Rngineer Hodgin. The Board approved the purchase of a new tire and tube for a truck at the No . 2 Fire Station, and the purchase of z dozen rain coats for the use of the Fire Department. After allowing claims to the amount of $7 ,566.82 they adjourned. Attest ; Ch man Clerk of the goard .
