OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF WORKS
CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA,
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 24TH,1939
The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City
of Richmond, Indiana, met in the office of said Board
Friday, November 24th, 1939 , at 9 :00 o' clock A. M.
Messr. John R. Britten, Simeon W. Hodgin and Henry U.
Johnson being present the following proceedings were
had to-wit ;
The minutes of the preceeding meeting were read
and approved.
A petition presented to the Board October 30th,1939
requesting a Water Main be installed on North 18th , St-
reet fvom F. to J. Street , and it being referred to
the Richmond Water Works Corporation for consideration
they, contending:' the consumption of water on this pro-
ject would not justify the expenditure. The Board taking
the matter under further advisement considered the y'dater.
Main being installed from north J Street one square
South on North 18th Street , this also was referred to -
the Richmond Water Works Corporation and City Engineer
Hodgin.
A petition to cut the curb to a width of 8 feet was
granted to Robert C. Ritz at 241&26 South 6th Street.
City Attorney Johnson was instructed to prepare a
Resolution for the installation of Electric Lights on
the Whitewater Boulevard from the Natoinal Road to the
South G Street Bridge.
Mr. Roland Cutter and Mr. Nile Patti representing the
Richmond Fire and Casualty Insurance Association were
present in the interest of the City's Insurance.
Mr. Floyd Gardner Attorney, was present and filed an
affidavit with the City Clerk,a notice of the DeBolt
Concrete Company to the Henke Construction Company of
Chica go,Illinois and Civil City of Pichmond ,Indiana.
Fire Chief Harry Williams reported, on account of
the heavy traffic on Main Street during certain hours
of the day it was almost impossible to' get the Fire
Trucks through, there being some discussion on the mat-
ter but no action was taken.
I/ The Street Commissioner was ordered to place a Stop
Sign at the intersection of North 8th and E Street .
Mayor Britten stated he had received a letter from
Mr. C. C. Calkinslocal Suerintendent of the Internati-
onal Harvester Plant thanking the Fire Chief and the
Firemen who rendered such valuable service during the
fire at the Plant Nov.19th 1939 and keeping the fire
to a minimum amount of damage, he also wished to thank

the Police Department for their efficient service
in handling the traffic during the fire and that
the City of Richmond should be complimented on
having such a capable groupe of men. Mayor Britten
stated he personally wished to thank the men of
the Fire Department and the Police Department for
their;.:: valuable service rendered during the fire
and the capable manner in which it was handled.

After allowing claims to the amount of $6 ,392. 65
they adjourned.
