The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana met Anthe office of said. Board, Friday, June 30 , 1939 • at 9: 00 A.M. Messrs. John R. Britten and. Henry U. Johnson II • being present the following proceedings were had, to-wit: The minutes of the preced-ding meeting were approved. Mr. Burkhardt, street commissioner and. Mr. Frisby of the Park Department were present and presented their information in regard to the purchase of a new power mower for the City. After examining several makes and taking everything into condid.eration, the Board approved buying the Moto-mower manufactured locally and sold by H. B . Highly. the price quoted was .y 3n8.80 net including the trade-in onthe old mower. Mr. Burkhardt said this whild be bought out of the Street Department fund !'Other New Equipment" . Mr. Frisby presented an estimate on spraying equipment and as the price is too high for the City to consider the matter will not be considered further at this time. Mr. Frisby stated that as far - as the trees on City property was concerned, none were in bad con- . dition. Since local nurseries have the necessary equipment, it was suggested that local residents contact them for such service. Mr. Windsor Harris in the interest of the Stay-At-Home camp for girls was before the Board and asked permission for the group to • have the use of the tennis courts, archery courts at Clear Creek Park and the ticket office at the ball park for housing their equipment necessary on the courts and. some tables from Glen Miller Park. This was for the period of July 5th to August lst. After discussing this with Mr. Burkhardt and Mr. Frisby the Board granted them this permission. In regard'-to;;the summons of Jenkins, et al vs The City of Richmond, Indiana for vacation of an alley, the City Attorney was instructed by the board to admit allegations of the plaintiff that the. alley between s th. and. 9th streets north of Main sh u ld be closed from Main Street to Sailor Street . A petition properly signed was presented asking the grading end graveling of an alley. Declaratory Resolution 277-1939 was adopted to cover this work. . The Clerk' s office was instructed to send a copy of our zoning ordinance to the Indiana Municipal League as requested by them. A notice from the State Board of Max Commissioners in regard to a hearing to be held July 6th at the County Auditor' s office was read by the Board members. Bids for coal to be used by the City were received and opened. • After the City attorney read the bids before the Board, Mr. Britten appoibted. Messrs Hcdgin, Burkhardt and Urban to analyze and rec- ommend what disposal to make of the Proposed bids. Following are the bids as submitted: . SAM JAFFE COMPANY, Inc.
