OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF WORKS AND SAFETY
CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA,
FRIDAY,'APRIL 7th, 1939 .
The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond,
Indiana, met in the office of said Board, Friday April 7th. 1939
at 9 :00 O' . clock A. M. Messrs. John R. Britten, Simeon W. Hodgin
and Henry. u ;;Johnson II, being present the following proceedings.
were had, to-wit ;

The minutes of the preceeding meeting were approved as read in
Council. .
The request for a light to be installed at- the alley intersec
tion and South J. Street West of 7th Street , was approved.
Mr. Conrad Neth in charge of the Police Radio Station, stated
Mr. Thomas Yott had made application as en opperator at the loc-
al Station, recommended his appointment,he stated that he was
qualified for the place.
On motion by ajohnson second by Hodgin, the appointment was app-
roMed.
Mr. .Neth also reported. that two Light Plant trucks had been equ-
ip.ed.with receiving sets for emergency use.
Street Commissioner Burkhardt reported he had been informed
that the week of Alril 24th` would be cleanup week.
A letter was received from Mr. 011ie Knode asking' the City to
take over the light in the alley back of his residents at No. 22
South 14th`:St. '. :=which he had been helping to maintain.
Was approved.
Mr. Don Bell and Mr. T.B. Morrow of the Insurance Committee
stated that a Blanket Policy Rad been prepared to take care of .
all the activities at the Ball Park until a plan can be worked
out. -
Mr. Dick Gimbel of the Y. M. C. A. with several represenatives
from factories and churces were present in: the interest of the
playing fields for Soft Ball. -
Yr. Hodgin stated that they would endevor to keep: the Glenn Mill-
er
grounds ,in shape until the Clear Creek grounds were ready to
play on.
The cmmittee stated that to install B class lights the estimate
cost was about 82200.00 the A. class being $4500...00, which Mr.
Britten s-aid`-was-impossible`ito�do~as there had7been r onprcivisi-
I/ in the budget for such expentiture, there being only $400.00
allowed for such purposes; this year.
The committee decided to have another meeting and reT)ort later.
April '7th being the date designated by the Board for the hear-
ing of remonstrators in regard to the proposed closing -of an
alley between south 6th & south 7th streets , abutting the. Hudson,
Birk and Beebe alleys, Mr. Brandon Griffis and Mr. Byron Robbins
appeared on behalf of Mr. Alferd Birk, Mr. Ross Harington appear-
ed on behalf of the Stevenson Estate remonstrating against said .

sented :s-everal letters and petitiones protesting the closing of

the alley. Mr. Dr. Holland, through his attorney John Brubak-
er protesting in the form of a letter.
After the hearing the Board took the matter of a final decis-
ion under advisement .
Bills being allowed to the amount of $8645.38.
On proper motion they adjorned.
