OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF WORKS AND SAFETY CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, FRIDAY, ARCH; 10th, 1939 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, 1 Indiana, met in the office of said Board, Friday, March 10,1939 at 9 :00 O' clock A. M. Messrs . John R. Britten, Simeon W. Hodgin and Henry U. Johnson II, being present the following proceedings were had. , The minutes of the preceeding meeting were approved as read in Council. Mr.: Lyman Lyboult appeared before the Board asking for permissi- on ror the High School boys to play ball on the Municipal Ball ground, which was granted. Board decided that a schedule should be made including all the teams that expect to use the Ball Park, and it be placed with the City Clerk so there will be no conflict with other teams who exp- ect to use the Ball Park,which Mr. Lyboult agreed to do , he also stated that if any games 'wer.e played where an admission was charg- ed the City would receive its usual percentage. The Board approved a recommendation of John L. Hamilton archite- ct for the naw Auditorium-Gymnasium to pay the Hinke Construction Company ($6,500.00) as damages resulting from the refusal of bond- ing attorneys to approve the transcript of the bonds issued to fi- nance the Structure. Mr. Johnson City Attorney stated that he believed that the City was under no legal obligation to pay damages , but he did believe it was a moral obligation. Mr. Britten stated that in his opinion the Contractor should not be penalized ror the coperation he had rendered in aiding the City in its position which finaly brought about the appro- val of the P.W. A. grant. The original claim was ror ( `¢24,000.00) later being reduced to the sum of ($6 ,500.00) . On motion by Johnson second by Hodgin that an Ordinance be prepaired and presented to the Common Council at their next regular meeting for the said sum of ( 46 ,500.00 ) to meet said claim of the Hinke Construction Company. Which was approved. A Resolution known as NO.-9-1939 was presented to the Board in regard to extra electrical fixtures in the new Auditorium- Gymnasium to the amount of 055.00) this being for flush boxes for exit fixtures. i On motion by Hodgin second by Johnson It was approved. Mr. Hodgin presented a bocklet with a traffic survey in it which had been prepaired by a W. P. A project , he stated that 100 copies had been received and that they hoped to destri- bute them among the Service Clubs and other places so that a1/- better traffic understanding:-Might be Had. The Builders Risk insurance Policies were submitted to the Board by the Insurance Committee and the City Attorney was re- quested to examine same and approve them before the premiums are paid.
