OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF WORKS AND SAFETY
CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA,
Friday, February 17 , 1939 .
The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond,
Indiana met in the office of said Board, Friday, February 17, 1939
at 9 :00 A.M. Messrs. John R. Britten, Simeon Hodgin and Henry U.
Johnson II being present the following proceedings were had ,
to-wit :
The minutes of the preceeding meeting were read and approved.
Yr . Britten stated that Carl J. Kutner had presented his resig-
hation which was accepted.
On motion by Mr. Hodgin, seconded by Mr. Johnson, the request
for lights in Ravinia Park and at South west 9th and National Road
was approved and referred to Common Council acting as a Light Plant
committee. -
Mr. Hodgin presented a suppliment of the Southeast Sewer W.P. A.
project asking the Board for their approval of the extensioh which
was granted , and also stated this project would be completed this
year.
Mr. Britten stated that in behalf of the Board of Public Works
and Safety, he wished to commend the work of the Fire Department
at the Daggy Building and rlso wished to commend the Pollee Depart-
ment for their fine cooperation in their assistance to the Firemen.
Mr. Charles Sells appeared before the Board and stated that the
Handle Factory at N. W. 7th and Richmond Ave. had filled their lot
up so that it was higher and now they are pumping water out of the
basement and it runs over on to his lots which are lower and f:tands.
Mr. Hodgin and the street commissioner were asked to investigate and
report back to the Board.
Mr. H. C. Crockett representing the M.H. Rhodes Corp. of Hartford,
Conn. demonstrated a parking meter and stated that they would install
these meters on a 25-75 basis on trial. If the City purchased them_
the price would be $50.00 or with concrete post. 10.00 extra.
Mr. Britten asked the Clerk to open and read the bids on the
truck to be purchased for the Street Department. Five different
companies presented bids : The McCormick Deering Store , County
Motors Inc. , Chenoweth Wotor Co. , . E. H. Gilcrest Co. and Waller
Motors, all of Richmond . Mr. S. W. Hodgin, Mr. Harry Williams and
Er. Albert Burkhardt were appointed to examine the bids and make
recommendations for the purchase of the truck.
The Clerk was also instructed to open and read the bids on the
fire hose. Five companies presented bids; The B. F. Goodrich Co. of
Richmond, The Central Rubber and Supply Co. of Indianapolis, Eureka
Fire Hose MMg. Co.,Chicago;,Illinois , Fabric Fire Hose Co . , Columbus,
Ohio and Bi-Lateral Fire Hose Co. , Chicago , Illinois . The same
committee was appointed to consider and recommend on these bids as
was . a.ppoInted on the truck bids. This was upon motion by Mr. Johnson,
seconded by Mr. Hodgin.
After bills amounting to ;6069. 95 were approved the Board adjourned.
