CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA,
Friday, JANUARY 64 1939.
The Board of Public Works and Safety o`f the City of Richmond,
Indiana met in the ofrice of said Board, Friday January 6, 1939
at 9 :00 A. M. Messrs. John R. Britten, Simeon Hodgin and Henry
U. Johnson II being present the following proceedings were had,
to-wit :
The minutes of the preceeding meeting were read and approved
as read.
Mayor Britten called for a report from the Fire Chief, Harry
Williams who stated a vacancy existed on the fire department by
the retirement on account of illness of Joe Strayer and presented
the application of Robert Omar Weller to fill said vacancy. The
application was accepted and approved by the Board.
A report from Mr. James Quigley who has had the concessions at
Glen Miller Park, in regard to the condition of the roof of the
main building stated that he had lost considerable merchandise on
account of the roof leaking rind asked that same be repaired before
his regular season of operation started. He also stated that he
still owed the 467 .00 to the city on this year' s contract ending
in May which would be paid plus six percent interest, which was
recommended by the City Attorney who also recommended' that the
building be inspected by the City Building Inspector and a report
be made to the Board as to its condition. Mr. Quigley said he
was paying on the boats and expected to repair the boat house at
his own expense and that his probable expenses would amount to
1000. by the time the seasoneopened.
Street Commissioner Burkhardt also mentioned that the roof on
the shelter house needed repairs. The Board decided to take these
matters under advisement until further reports are made.
laity Attorney Johnson was advised by the Board to contact the
insurance company who has the present Park policy in regard to rais-
ing the amount the policy is written for from $5,000 _ 0.0,000 to
read 10,000 - 420,000.
By unanimous vote the Board agreed that the claim made by Dorsey
Wilson against the City of Richmond be rejected and deny all liabil-
ities.
The Building. Inspector was requested to inspect all City omed
buildings and to give a report on same.
Mr. Hodgin reported a recuest from Adolf Fosler for alii'ght 'on
North C between llth and 12th and one 'between 12th ' and 13th at the
alley and street intersections. The estimated cost to be about $60
per light. The lights were ordered installed.
The two deeds covering the transfer of ground on.N. W. N Street
to the the City of Richmond by the Dickinson Trust Co. commissioners
of Richmond, Indiana and the Belden Mfg. Co. were accented. -
The 1938 report of Ed. Higgs, former Building Inspector, was
presented to the Board , approved and accepted.

City Engineer Hodgin presented plans and IPA applications
form for the construction of a warehouse at the Street Depart-
ment garage, to be used by the WPA. The estimated cost of this-
building was about 19 ,000, of which the City' s share would be-,
1,000. This building to become the property of the City at } the
close of WPA operations. Mr. Hodgin also presented plans for
remodeling the City Jail for use of the Police Department . Mr.
Hodgin was instructed to file VPA applications for both the above
projects with the understanding that special appropriations- would
be requested of Council for the City's share of the cost .
Claims in the amount of /7 j62, 87 were al • e i l a, ter which
