HomeMy Public PortalAbout09-02-1938 OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF WORKS 461 CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 2, 1938. The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in the office of the said Board, Friday, September 2, 1938, at 9:00 o'clock A.M. Messrs. Joseph M. Waltermann, Simeon Hodgin amd William Keeley, Jr. , being present , the I/ following proceedings were had, to-wit: Permission to cut the curb a distance of 31 feet at the Hibberd School' was granted the School City. The Board ordered the extension of the 6 inch water main a distance of 200 feet on Southwest 16th Street below E. The following communication was received: Septemebr 2, 1938 To His Honor the Mayor Board of Works and Safety, Dear Sirs: On account of my health I am hereby asking that you accept my resignation, to take effect not later than September 15, 1938. Under seperate cover I am also makiyg application to the Fdiremens Pension Board for a disability pension. Yours respectfully, Joseph Strayer. The Fire Chief explained that Mr. Strayer was afflicted with a severe case of heart trouble and that his physician had ordered him not to continue in the fire department. With this explanation on the part of the Chief, the Board accepted the resignation of Mr. Strayer. Mr. Willi feller was before the Board relative to the accident which occured to Louis Reed at the Glen Miller Park, and the Board decided that it would be im ossible for them to take any action on this case until after it had been determined what the insurance company was going to do. The Board decided to give the bear at the Park to Charles Price with the understanding that the same be destroyed before being removed from the cage, the Board also ordered the monkey disposed of. City Controller George Coons reported that he had received bids for the printing of bonds for the Auditorium-Gymnasium as follows: Nicholson Printing Company $119.00 J. M. Coe Co. $126.50 an that he recommended to the Board the awarding of this woo to the Nicholson Printing Co. who were the low bidder. The Board adopted this recommendatiom. if 6 • The Municipal Electric Lighting and Power Plant was given permission to fence in and use the lot on Johnson Street, which was the property of the Civil City. The Fire Chief reported that he had planned to have Webster Marshall re-examined and that if he was able to pass the examination, that he would be removed from the pension role and placed on active duty, thus saving 0900.00 per year for the pension fund.
