The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in the office of the said Board, I/ Friday August 12, 1938, at 9 :00 o' clock A.M. Messrs. Joseph M. Waltermann, Simeon HodFin and William Kelley, Jr. , being present the following proceedings were had , to-wit : The minutes of the preceeding meeting were approved as read. Mr. Hodgin presented a claim for damages from Mr. Harry E. Hunt said damages being caused by the construction of the East and Southeast Sewer and the inability of Mr. Hunt to use his land during said construction. Mr. Hodgin stated that there would no doubt be several of these claims and suggested that it would be a good idea to have some one who was familar with farm values to go over these claims. The Board approved of this idea and author- ized Lige Berry to serve in this capacity. This being the date advertised for the receiving of bids for the leaseing of the Municipal Golf Course for a 4 year period, commencing January 1, 1939 to December 31, 1942, the Clerk opened the one bid from William Morrey which was as follows : For the right and privilege of operating said Municipal Golf Course for the period of said contract , I agree to pay to the City,of Richmond, the sum of Two Thousand Dollars payable in four equal installments of $500.00 each on or''before the first day of April of each years 1939-1940,1941 and 1942. / W. E. Morrey. The Board accepted this bid and instructed that contract be drawn. This being the time and the place for the receiving of bids for the scrap copper which is a part of the salvage from the abandonment of the Indiana Railway, the Clerk read the following bids : Epstien Brothers, Indianapolis, Indiana. Bare Copper per pound $9.10 per hundred Insulation to be deducted. Dann Brothers, Newcastle, Indiana. Cleaned Trolley Wire $9.10 per hundred Cleaned Feeder Wire 8.35 " " Insulated Wire 5.85 " „ F. O.B. Your Plant. Sam Jaffe Company. Richmond , Indiana. Trolley Wire $9 .04 per hundred Clean NO 1 Copper Wire 8. 60 " Heavy Yellow and Heavy red brass 7 . 00 " With deduction of 20% of weight for insulation. Ben Harris & Company, Chicago , Illinois. Trolley & Feed Wire ( Clean) $8.05 per hundred Insulated Feeder Tire 5.78 " " Brass Hangers with iron 5.40 " " Clean Brass 6.40 " " Acme Iron and Metal Co. Columbus, Ohio . Bare Copper I $8. 70 per hundred Insulated Copper 6. 52 " " The City Engineer, the City Controller and the City Clerk were appointed to tabulate these bids and make their recommendation, and their recommendation was that the junk be sold to Epstien Brothers of Indianapolis, Indiana, at their bid price of $9 . 10 per hundred, which was the high bid. City Attorney Kelley, dictated a letter for the Mayor which was to be mailed to the local agent of the Indemnity Insurance Company of North America, in r.ec'ards to the accident at the bear cage in Glen Miller Park. The Clerk was instructed to write to the Cincinnati 7ooc and see if it were possible to get rid of both the bear and the monkey at the park.
