OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF WORKS
CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA,
FRIDAY AUGUST 5, 1938.
11/ The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of
Richmond, Indiana, met in the office of the said Board,
Friday August 5, 1938, at 9 :00 o' clock A.M. Messrs.
Joseph M. Waltermann, Simeon Hodgin and William Kelley,
Jr. , being present the following proceedings were had,
to-wit:
The minutes of the preceeding meeting were approved
as read.
The Clerk reported that Thollie Druley had not yet
signed the garbage contract.
A petition for the installation of a water main on
North 18th Street from F to J Streets was received and
referred the the Water Works for investigation.
Mr. Howard Dill asked the Board for a written order
for the relocating of the fire hydrant at North 14th
and F Street, this relocating to be paid for by the
Dille McQuire Company.
Fire Chief Harry Williams recommended to the Board
that a fire hydrant be installed at the Home of the
Friendless. The Board adopted this recommendation.
The Clerk was instructed to notify Mr. Jay E.
Cardner of Indianapolis that the ball park was not
available for the staging of wrestling bouts.
The doctor and hospital bills of Mrs. Minnie Bodman,
who was allegedly injured in falling over some cable
which was being removed as a part of the abandonment
of the Indiana Railroad, was ordered paid out of the
Track Repair Fund, this being on the advice of City
Attorney Kelley, the claim was for the amount of $43.50.
Mr. Hodgin presented a letter and copies of the
necessary advertisement for the letting of a contract
for the excavation for the new Auditorium, and the
Clerk was instructed to place this add just as soon as
word was received from Chicago authorizing the same.
A lease between the School City and the Civil City
coverfeng the ground to be used for the Auditorium was
received and accepted, the said lease ccovering a period
of 26 years and being a part of the preliminary steps
necessary to enable the Civil City to secure the PWA Grant

The petition for the installation of Ornamental Lights
on NW J Street, which was referred to the Board by the
Common Council was considered and since the City did
not have funds available for this installation, and
it being; the understanding that the petitioners wanted
these lights installed under the same terms as those
of 1935 & 1936 were installed, this petion was referred
to the Committee in charge of the operation of the
Light Plant .
The Clerk reported that he had been handed a
petition for the eliminating of an old basement on
the Evans property on East Main between 17 and 18th
Streets, and that he had •referred the same to the
Sanitary Inspector who had contacted the Richmond
Propoerty Corporation in an effort to have this
condition corrected.
Claims to the amount of $6,193.87 were allowed
after which the Board adjourned.
