HomeMy Public PortalAbout07-09-1938 OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF WORKS 449 CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA SATUHDAY JULY 9, 1938 The Board of Public Works & Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in the office of the said Board, Saturday July I/ llth, 1938, at 9:00 A. M. ,. Messrs . Joseph M. Waltermann, Simeon W. Hodgin and William H. Kelley, Jr. , being present the following proceedings were had to, wit : The minutes of the preceeding meeting were approved as read in Council. Capt. Kendall of the Bolice Department was before the Board about the painting of a curb at 19 South 6th Street , after the Board had given other orders in their meeting of July 1st . Kendall said they had painted the curb, and were attempting to keep persons from parking at this space. The Board ordered the paint removed, and signs placed as per the July 1st meeting. Mr. Dill of the Water Works was before the Board in regard to the new extension of lines along Whitewater Blvd. , and Abington Pike, and wanted to know if they should order pipe to take care of same . The Board thought it best for persons living along Abington Pike to file a petition for lines . Fire Chief Williams thought it best to have this part protected in case of fire. It was further agreed to take the matter under advisement, and for Chief Williams to • report back to the Board after proper investigations . The petition to cut a curb by Omar H. Young, 642 North 10th Street, for the distance of 10 feet was approved. The Board accepted the following report of James J. Egan, Dog catcher, and agreed that his work had been very satisfact- ory: The following is a report of the dog catcher of work done from February 15th to July 7th 1938. Dogs picked up and gassed 667 Dogs given proper homes in country 53 Cats picked up and gassed 43 Number of 1938 tags sold 553 Number of phone calls and complaints received and answered 1137 Gasoline used in amount of cash to date 84.02 J. J. Egan, Jr. , Dog catcher contract holder.- 450 The following bids for the collection of garbage and dead animals for four (4) years beginning January 1, 1939 were received: Harry K. Shute $42,059.68 Lee W. Ridgeway 44,720.00 Emmett Eadler 27,360.00 It was found that only Mr. Ridgeway► s bid contained Form No. 96-A as prescribed by the State Board of Accounts. On motion of Mr. Kelley, and seconded by Mr. Hodgin, all bids were ordered thrown out, and ordered to be re-advertised for bid July 22nd. The motion was adopted. Claims for the amount of $11,278.46 were allowed after which the Board adjourned. Mayor- Attest : Leej ActiAg Clerk®-
