FRIDAY M4RCH.. 4; 1938.
The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of
Richmond, Indiana, met in the office of the said Board ,
Friday March 4 , 1938, at 9 :00 o' clock A.M. Messrs.
Toseph M. Waltermann, Simeon Hodgin and William Kelley,
Tr. being present , the following proceedings were had ,
to-wit :
The minutes of the preceeding meeting were approved
as read.
Superintendent of Streets Burkhardt was instructed
to use Stop Disks in place of turtles in future
installations .
City Attorney Kelley was to look up the law on the
lighting of railroad crossings within the City, to
detrmine if it was not the railroads obligation to
place lights under the viaducts in Fairview.
Mr. Omer Sheffer submitted a proposition to repair
the roof at' No . 3 Hose House for a price not to exceed
$70.00. The Board accepted this proposition and inst-
ructed the Building Inspector to have Mr. Sheffer do
this work.
Mrs. Gaar of the Museum asked permission of the
Board to remove the Log Cabin which served as the
first school in Wayne County, to the Museum on North
"A_" Street , and agreed to move the same at no expense
to the city. The Board agreed to allow the school to
be moved with the understanding that all expense
attached thereto should be borne by Mrs. Gaar.
Mr. Hodgin reported that the truck which had been
traded by the street department for 100.00 could be
purchased by the Disposal Plant for $75. 00, and that
this truck would be quite useful at said plant , and
asked permission to purchase this truck. The Board
granted this permission with the understanding that
not more than $75. 00 should be paid for the same.
Mr. Hodgin reported that bids had been asked on
the rental of equipment at so much per hour less the
services of an operator, this equipment to be used
on the East and Southeast sewer, but that all bids
did not come in that way, as most bidders did not
want to have some one else operate their shovels.
Mr. Hodgin then recommended that all bids for equipment
rental be rejected and that Mr. Wenz of WPA be given
the authority to rent such equipment as was needed
and at such time or terms as would be most advantageous
to the city, without entering into a contract for any
definate period. The Board adopted this recommendation.

Mr. Hodgin informed the Board that WPA was going
to be able to furnish enough material and labor, that
it owuld be possible for the city to go ahead with
several projects that had been held up, and that he
recommended to the Board that one of the projects be ,
the narrowing of the parkways in Reeveston so as
provide a 20 foot driveway. The Board approved this
recommendation. Yr. Hodgim also recommende that cement
walks be placed on NW 13th Street from Main Street
north, and on the south side of Main Street past
Clear Creek Park, also cement curbs and gutters on
Whitewater Boulevard from Southwest 1st Street to
South G Street. These recomendation were also approved.
Ross Harrington was before the Board relative to
the vacation of an alley, and was informed by the Board
that he should prepare his resolution and present the
same to the Planning Commission for their approval
before the Board could take any action.
Claims to the amount of $11,335. 76 were allowed by
the Board.
The Board approved Building Code Amendment No. 3-1938.
