The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in the office of the said Board, Friday February 18 , 1938, at 9 :00 o' clock A.M. Messrs. Simeon Hodgin and William Kelley, Jr. being present I/ the following proceedings were had to-wit : The minutes of the p4eeding meeting were approved as read. The Committee which was appointed to make the awards on sewer materials made the following report : Armstrong Sewer Pipe Company. 8" - 12" - 15" Deaired and 18" Deaired Sewer Pipe American Vitrified Products 8" - 10" - 15" - 18" - 21" Sewer Pipe Queen City Supply Company Calking compound Bartsch Brothers Concrete Blocks Central Foundry Company Cast Iron Pipe The Board approved the award of the contracts on this basis. Permission to cut the curb for a private drive at 420 South 21st Street was granted. Mr. A. L. Jackson was 'granted permission to use the vacant lot in the rear of 129 Bridge Avenue, said lot to be used for gardening purposes. Fire Chief Harry Williams reported that the roof on # 3 Hose House was leaking and should be repaired, this report was turned over to the Building Inspector for his attention. The Fire Chief also informed the Board that something would have to be done about the heating plant in # 5 Hose House before another winter. The Board on the recommendation of the Fire Chief, approved the installation of a fire hydrant at the corner of Southwest D Street and Whitewater Boulevard. Following the reading of a letter from Yr. LouisI/ Y. Crosley; of the Cincinnatti Reds informing us that they were not interested at this time in establishing a baseball farm but would keep the park in mind for future use. The Board then instructed the Clerk to place the proper legal add for the leasing of the Municipal Baseball Park for a period of One Year, and set the date of March 4 , 1938, at 10:00 A.M. for the opening of these bids. 4 1 City Controller c'eor^•e Coons reported that the State Board of Accounts had informed him that the City could not use any of the gasoline funds for the purchase of equipment for the street department. Pursuant to notice mailed to •local truck dealers on One 175 ton model motor truck, fully equipped, dual rear wheels, 30x5-8 ply tires, closed cab , with Wood C-5 120 cubic feet capacity with hinged steel side boards 7 foot length, with Wood G1 underbody hoist or equal, and overload springs , four (4) speed foward transmission with extra low speed. Alternate : Same as above except with 32x6 tires. the following bids were received : McCormick Deering Stores, International Truck. Chevrolet truck as specified $1,163.79 Alternate with 32x6 8 ply tires 1,189. 62 Allowance on 1928 truck 100.00 Making a net of $1,063.00 and $1,089. 00 422 These bids were tabulated and upon the statement of Mr. Burkhardt, Superintendent of Streets , that he was getting execellent service from the Dodge truck, the contract was awarded to E. H. Cilcrest Company, for one Dodge truck for the sum of $981. 00, which was the low bid. Claims to the amount of $11,134.37 were allowed after which the Board adjourned. Mayor.
