HomeMy Public PortalAbout11-26-1937 399 OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF WORKS CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, FRIDAY NOVEMBER 26, 1937 . The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in the office of said Board, Friday November 26, 1937 , at 9 :00 o' clock A. M. Messrs. Toseph M. Waltermann, Simeon T. Hodgin and William Kelley, Jr. , being present the following proceedings were had, to-wit : The minute of the preceeding meeting were approved as read in Council. The Clerk reported that Mr. Dill of the Water Works Corporation had informed him the the company had approved the water main extension on New Paris Pike and were now getting bids for this installation. City Attorney Kelley read the following Resolution: RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA. WHEREAS, the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, has heretofore determined that it would be for the best interests of said City and its citizens to provide for the construction of sanitary sewers to sevre the east and southeast sections of the City and trunk line sewer to connect said territory with the City' s sewage treatment plant , and to that end has caused plans, specifications and estimates to be prepared by the City Engineer, which plans:, specifications and estimates are now on file in the office of the said engineer and show the estiiated cost of said project to be in the approximate sum of Two Hundred Nine Thousand Dollars ( 209,000.00 ) ; and WHEREAS, on apnlica.tion of the City, the Works Progress Administration of the Federal Goverment has agreed to allocate to said project a grant in the amount of One Hundred Fifty-one Thousand Dollars ( 151k0OQ. 00 ) , and arranmements have-been made for the payment of the sum of Thirteen Tgousand Dollars (` 13,000.00) toward the cost of said project by the owners of the property served by said sewers, leaving a balance of Forty-five Thousand Dollars ( : 45,000.00 ) to be provided by the City ; and WHEREAS, the Board of Public Works and Safety now finds that said sewers are necessary in order to properly protect the health and well being of the citizens of the City of Richmond , and will in part be of general benefit to the entire City, and that the sum of Forty-five Thousand Dollars W45,000.00 ) should be supplied out of the general fund of the City, or out of funds derived 400 derived from the issuance of general obligation bonds ; and WHEREAS, it will be of great advantage to the City and its citizens to accept the offer of the Works Progress Administration and provide the necessary funds for the said protect , for the reason that, with the cooperation of the Work Progress Administration, said project can be constructed at a nominal to the City and its citizens, and the Works Progress Administartion will be able to give employment to many unemployed citizens and thereby . lighten poor relief burdens ; now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, that the plans, specifi- catuons and estimates prepared by the City Engineer for ' the sewer project herein referred to be and the same are hereby approved. RESOLVED FURTHER that this Board request the City Controller and the Common Council to take proper steps immediately to provide the necessary funds for said purpose, in the amount of Forty-five Thousand Dollars (.;45,000.00 ) , and to that end that a copy of this resolution be filed with the City Controller and City Clerk and presented to the Common Council at the next meeting thereof. On the motion of Mr. Hodgin and the second of Mr. Kelley, this resolution was adopted. After a conference with the City Controller, it was decided to issue 90 - bonds to be known as the East & Southeast Sanitary Sewer System, each bond to be of $500.00 denomination to be retired at the rate of ' 4;_500.00 per year, the first falling due on the date of January 1, 1940, and the first interest coupon being dated July 1, 1939. The Board asked for e revised estimate on the traffic light installation at 16th and Main Street . Fire Chief Harry William was authorized to purchase one new Camewell Alarm Box, the same to be installed either on Southwest 4th and C or 5th and C Streets.
