HomeMy Public PortalAbout10-15-1937 386 OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF WORKS CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, FRIDAY OCTOBER 15, 1937 . The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond , Indiana , met in the office of said Board , Friday October 15, 1937 , at 9 :00 o' clock A. M. Messrs. Simeon Hodgin and William Kelley, Tr. , being present the following proceedings were had, to-wit : The minutes of the prceeding meeting were approved as read . Mr. Howard Dill was before the Board and explained that the Better Business Bureau had drafted an ordinance on traffic and that they would be glad to turn the same over to the city, and that a copy of this ordinance had been given to Councilman Wagner, Chief of Police Vogelsong and Chief of Detectives Ellis Duckett . City Engineer Hodgin reported that he had investig•a.ted the location at North 7th and A Streets and that he felt that the petition to cut the curb on 7th street should be denied, and only the part referring to North A Street granted. The Board approved this recommendation. George Brehm appeared before the Board in an effort to have a sign advertising the Light Plant placed in the northeast corner of the park and stated that there was auite a crowd always collected at this point outside the park and that the erection of such a sign would eliminate , this. Mr. Brehm also thought that it might be possible by the sale of advertising on the fence to raise enough money to light the playing field in the park. The Board took there suggestions under advisement. The Board adopted Declaratory Resolution No. 256-1937 , for the vacation of 20' off the west side of North 14th Street , and set the date of November 5, 1937 , at 10 :00 A. Y. as the time for the hearing of remonstrances. Two applications for a position as radio operators were recieved from C. R. Neth, 731 Center Street , Milford Ohio , and Albert Zr. Fischer 1327 Webster-Avenue, Des Plaines , Illinois. Both of these were ordered placed on I/ file for future reference. Mr. Hodgin reported that Mr. Wenz telephone allowance had been taken away by W.P. A. and that he thought that the City should take care of this bill as we had to be in contact with Mr. Wen7 at all times. It was found that the city was already paying for one phone in the name of Walter Reid , former supervisor of W. P.A. and that this phone could be transferred to Mr. Wenz. 387 City Attorney Kelley was asked for an opinion as to whether it would be le€?al for the city to pass an I/ ordinance which would provide for the payment of the difference between the wage of street and nark department employees and the amount of compensation insurance which they received, such payment to be made only in the csse where said employees were injured during work. Yr. Kelley stated that in his oninion that the city could not le •ally do this . Claims to the amount of $15,814.12 were allowed after which -the Board adjourned.
