OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF WORKS
CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA,
FRIDAY AUGUST 27 , 1937.
The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of
Richmond, Indiana, met in the office of said Board,
Friday August 27 , 1937 , at 9 :00 o' clock A.M. Messrs.
Joseph M. Waltermann, Simeon Hodgin and William Kelley,
Jr. , being prsent, the following proceedings were had,
to-wit :
The minutes or the preceeding meeting were approved
as read.
Permission to cmt the curb at 409 South 18th Street
was granted'.
A petition for a street light at South 6th & 0 and
on North 16th between E and the Railroad were referred to
Earl Beck of the Light Plant.
Mr. Thomas Morrow or the Peitz Insurance Agency was
before the Board relative to the Public Liability
Insurance on the Base Ball Park, and it was decided to
take no action on this until some information was received
from Harrington Hoch as to a refund on the compensation
insurance.
Chief of Police Henry Vogelsong was before the Board
and brought up the question of eliminaning parking;,on one
side of North B between 8th & 9th Streets, and stated
that this street was so narrow that With parking on both
sides it was almost impossible to get through. The Board
thought that it would be best to restrict parking on the
north side of this street and referred the same to Mr.
Burkhardt . The Chief also brought up the question of North
A between 5th & 6th, and the Board decided to restrict
parking on the north side of this street .
Miss Margaret Knollenberg offered to give lots 16 to 21
in George H. Knollenbergs Addition to the City, this offer
was referred to City Engineer Hodgin and Superintendent of
Streets Burkhardt.
Complaint was made as to parking on North 5th Street
near D and it was decided to paint a yellow curb at this
corner, the same to be off sufficient length so that cars
could turn the @Orner when the street cars were+:stopped
there.
City Attorney Kelley read the proposed ordinance as
to false fire alarms. Chief William suggested that this
same ordinance be so drawn as to cover the running over
fire hose and interfering in any manner whatsoever with
firemen engaged in going to dr putting out fires, and
the City Attorney was instructed to include these two
offences in the ordinance.

City Engineer Hodgin reported that the traction company
had asked that the city prepare a contract such as they
might desire to cover the operation of busses. City Attorney
Kelley stated that in the meeting with the Council, he had
been informed by the Council, that they were interested
in trackless trolleys, to replace the Present street cars,
' and busses to serve only as feeders to these trackless
cars. The Board decided to contact the Indiana Railway Co.
and learh their attitude toward this proposition.
Messrs. Hodgin, Coons and Williams reported that they
recommended that the money which was left in the Ed Miller
Memorial Fund be turned of to the Firemens Pension. The
Board approved this recommendation.
City Purchasing Agent Ray Stevens reported that on
the sewer pipe for the Crosley Sewer, he had found that
this material could be purchased direct for t174. 24 less
than the Prices that were quoted by local dealers, and
that he had contacted the local dealers, who had agreed
to reduce all bids 5%. The Board then ordered that this
business be given to the local dealers, and the business
be divided amongst all of those who bid.
Claims to the amount of 010,912.32 were allowed after
which the Board adjourned.
