The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in the office of said Board, I/ Friday July 23, 1937, at 9 :00 o ' clock A.M. Messrs. Joseph M. Waltermann and William Kelley, Jr. , being present, the following proceedings were had, to-wit : The minutes of the preceeding meeting were approved as read in Council. A gentlemen appeared before the Board seeking to have a sidewalk constructed on West Main Street across Clear Creek and stated that it was very dangerous for sch000 children without a sidewalk. The Board then informed tile gentlemen that this walk was to be constructed with WPA labor in the near future. A complaint about the smoke and water from Andy Issen's laundry on South E Street was referred to the Health Dept. for investigation. A request for the opening of North 17th Street from J Street to the bridge was received. A communication from the Federal Radion Commission as to the wave length sought for the new Police Telegraph system was referred to Harold Ritchey, Chief Operator of W.P.D.H. The Board ordered the 6" water main laid on Northwest 10th Street from Northwest B Street to Peacock Road. Henry Therian, WFA Recreation Director was before the Board seeking the grant of $15.00 from the park recreation fund, to be used for expenses connected with the Soft Ball Tourhament to be held in Glen Miller Park. The Board granted this request. City Purchasing Agent Ray Stevens reported that the tabulation of the coal bids showed that the Muff Fuel and Grain Co. were low on Items -#1-5 & 6 at the delivered price of $4. 50-$5.40 and $5.40 and $6.00. Sam Jaffe Co. I/ low bid on Items #2-3 & 4 at the delivered price of 5.36 and $5. 75 on Items 2-5 and $4.86 on Item 3, F. O.B. siding. The Board approved these recommendations. Only one bid being received for the purchase of two Police cars, the City Purchasing Agent was instructed to re-advertise for bids to be opened August 6, 1937.
