January 25, 1937
Board of Public Works and Safety,
Richmond, Indiana.
Gentlemen:
In compliance with your instructions we
have carefully gone over the details of the various
bids submitted, by five different companies, for the
new Aerial Truck for the Fire Department , and have
the following recommendations to make :
•
1. That the ladders be of metal with three sections,
with regular power hoist, but with hand emergency.
2. That the engine be of 200 horse power or more and
of design to insure quick service repairs.
3. That the manufactor be able to give quick and
reliable service, and with the assurance of
remaining in business.
314
4. That due consideration be given to other details
such as ability to move ladder without lowering,
turning radius, materials of construction, etc .
Considering the first of these, limits our
consideration of but two machines, the Peter Pirsch
and the Seagrave. The price of the Peter Pirsch I/
machine, with a 200 horse power motor and meeting
other reouirements is $16,856.00, the price of the
Seagraves with 240 horse power motor is $17 ,344.00.
We feel that the additional power of the motor
and certain other details of the Seagrave justify
the additional Price of .j 488.00. We therefore
recommend the purchase of the Seagraves Apparatus.
Yours respectfully,
H. E. Williams, Chief Fire Dept.
S. W. Hodgin, City Civil Engr.
Member of Board of
Works & Safety.
On the motion of Mr. Kelley and the second of Mr
Hodgin, this recommendation was adopted and contracts
signed with the Seagraves Corporation for the purchase
of one 85' Aerial Truck with 240 horse power motor.
Mr. Peirce of the McKechnie-Peirce Co. was before
the Board in an effort to straighten out some of the
damage claims against his company, which the insurance
company had refused to pay, this question was left
to Mr. Hodgin and Mr. Peirce, they to report back
to the Board .
Claims to the amount of $1,270.80 were allowed
after which the Board adjourned.
