OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF WORKS
CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA,
FRIDAY NOVEMBER 20, 1936.
The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City
of Richmond , Indiana, met in the office of said. Board,
Friday November 20, 1936, at 9 :00 o ' clock A.M. Messrs. 1/.
Joseph M. Waltermann, Simeon Hodgin and William
Kelley, Jr. being present the following proceedings
were had, to-wit :
The minutes of the preceeding meeting were approved
as read in Council.
A petition for an arc light at 200 Northwest 16th
Street was received but no action was taken on the
same.
The Board ordered the Arc Light removed at the
corner of West llth end Main Street, and an ornamental
light placed at this corner said light to billed to
the City on the same basis as those that were installed
as a part of the Y'a'PA program this summer. The Board
also ordered one ornamental light placed an North 12th
Street between North E and the Pennsylvania Railroad.
A discussion was had relative to the painting of
yellow curbs, and it was decided that since there
was no authority to enforce parking restrictions at
locations other than those specificly mentioned in
the Trafric Ordinance, that the Board would only
have the Street Department paint these curbs and allow
all others to fade out.
The Board also ordered the Street Department to
Paint cross walks at West End and National Road for
the protection of the children who attend Joseph Moore
School.
The petition of Luke Bowing to cut the curb for a
distance of 40 feet on North 5th & North 6th Street,
was held up pending some sort of an agreement as to
the parking of city cars .
Acting on the advise of City Attorney Kelley, the
Board instructed the Clerk to advertise for bids for
the sale of the house in Starr Park; said bids to be I/
recieved by the Board Friday December 4, 1936 at the
hour of 9 :00 o' clock.
City Attorney Kelley reported that the Indiana
Railway denied responsibility for the accident at
4th and Main wherein a Police Car was involved, yet
they had made a compromise offer for settlement of
245.00. The Board authorized City Attorney Kelley
to settle for this figure.

The Board instructed the Clerk to notify the
Radio Operators to start on their vacations at once,
arranging such vacations so that Operator Webb be
the last off, and if there was not sufficient time
between now and the first of the year for all the
men to get their vacation, that Mr. Webb be paid in
lieu of the same, since it was the plan of the Board
to operate with 3 men instead of 4 after the first
of the year, and Mr. Webb would be the man displaced.
the Clerk was also instructed to notify the operators
that starting January 1, 1937 , their wages would be
as follows :
Chief Operator $135.00
Asst. Operators 125.00
The Board also authorized the purchase of one Sparton
Receiver, and instructed the operators that the three
that were in use should be kept tuned at all times
to the Ohio State Police Wave Length, the Indiana State
Police Wave Length and the Connersville Police Wave
Length.
Claims to the amount of $2,188.86 were a llow5d
after which the Board adjourned.
