The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond , Indiana, met in the office of the said Board, Friday September 25, 1936, at '0 :00 o ' clock - A.M. Messrs . Simeon Hodgin and William Kelley, Jr. being present the following proceedings were had , to-wit : The Mayor was absent from the meeting account of being prsent at the meeting of the "Jayne County Tax - Adjustment Board . The minutes of the rreceeding meeting were approved . as read in. Council. Jessie Parschall of the Lions Club was granted permission to place a sign for the Lions Club at the east and west corporation limits , such signs to be placed as instructed by the Building Inspector. City Purchasing Agent Steven was instructed to get new bids for weather stripping such windows in the City Building as require such stripping. Communication from D. O. Beach regarding an arc at 'Rest Seventeeth Street was tabled as arrangements had already been made for this installation Fire Chief Harry Williams stated that if water mains were to placed at South 6th and P Street, he recommened a fire hydrant be installed here, and one north of North 19th and J Streets in case mains were installed in this section. The Fire Chief also asked : permission of the Board to purchase 3 new tires for the fire trucks the Board instructed the Chief to have City Purchasing Agent Stevens secure these for him. The Chief also stated that now that the depression seemed to be over that he thought that the city should have a new smoke ordinance, as the present ordinance did not cover conditions and thought that the Building Inspector should get copies of ordinances from other I/ - Cities and have an ordinance drffted to cover the local situation also that it should be the duty of the Building Inspector and not the Fire Chief to enforce the same. Councilman Brehm brought up the subject of paying some one to take care of the ball park, since WPA would no longer care for the same, and suggested that the man who had been doing this work under Pei'. be allowed to continue and be paid frog., the cities share of the receipts of the game. The Cerk was authorized to rewrite the present contract so that this might be done. • • 288 Councilman Brehm also • stated that the bus lines could : secure the Bass property on South 5th Street as a bus t`ermina.l and that he was making an effort to get all :interested parties together so that some action could be takeb as to getting the busses . off the street.
