City of Richmond, Indiana,
Friday July 17 , 1936.
The Board of Public Works and Safety of the
City of Richmond, Indiana, met in the office of
said Board, Friday July 17 , 1936, at 9 :00 o ' clockI/
A.M. Messrs. Simeon Bodgin and William Kelley, Jr.
being presnt the following proceedings were had,
to-wit :
The minutes of the preceeding meeting were
approved as read.
Andrew Berlitz and Paul Wellbaum, .representing
the Harry Ray Post of the American Legion, were
before the Board in regards to the use of the
Municipal Ball Park on the dates of August 6 & 7,
for the State Legion baseball tournament during
the day and the promotion of ametuer boxing bouts
in the evening. The Board agreed to allow the
American Legion to have use of the park on these
dates with the understanding that the park would
not be completed by this date and that the Legion
would accept it even though it were not entirely
completed.
Mr. Hess of the Light Plant was before the Board
with figures for the installation of traffic lights
at South 6th & A and. South 7th & A Streets, and
stated that it would cost approximately ia,600.00
to install these lights and to change the present
one at South 5th & A Street to conform with the
rest of the installations and to be operated from
a central control. The Board ordered this work
done with the understanding that the same would
be paid for the next year.
The Board also instructed Superintendent of
Streets Burkhardt to some one from his department,
clean and repaint all of the traffic lights.
Only one bid was received for the Old Lemon
Property, that being from Ed Ruche who bid 5$325.00
and agreed to remove the said house from the
property. The Board accepted this offer.
The Board instructed Mr. Hess to have plans
drawn for the wiring of the Municipal Ball Park,
also to have lights placed on SW 13th Street
between -�`ain and Peacock Road, these lights to
be operated from a switch located in Lhe Park,
and to install one arc light at the corner of
West 13th and Peacock Road.
City Engineer 'odgin was authorized to prepare

plans and estimates for Reid Memorial Hospital on
a sewer to connect -in with our present sewage
system, some discussion was had as to whether there
should be a charge made for connecting ihto our sewages
system and it was the opinion of the Board that since
this was a hospital serving the City of Richmond, that
we could well afford to waive any charge for this
connection.
Claims to the amount of 4 0W,?7. 5Vafter which the
Board adjourned.

The Board discussed the question of operation of traffic
lights on Main Street during heavy traffic and it was
decided to try to have the change periods slowed down
when traffic was heavy and see if this did not improve
the condition.
Jaco-b Rock was apointed a member of the Fire
Department .
