HomeMy Public PortalAbout06-19-1936 249 Office of the Board of Works City of Ricnmond, Indiana, Friday June 19, 1936. • The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in the office of said Board, Friday Tune 19 , 1936, at 9 :00 o' clock A.M. Messrs. Joseph M. Walterman, Simeon Hodgin and William Kelley, Jr. being present the following proceedings were had, to-wit : The minutes of the preceeding meeting were approved as read in Council. City Engineer Hodgin reported that he had investigated the complaint as to the curb at West 14th and National Road and tnat whatever u.anger existed at this location was due to the work done by the property owner, and the city was not responsible for either the work or the condition it created. Mr. Hodgin also reported that the sale of the Pest house for $150.00 had fallen througi and that the same had been tore down, he asked the permission of the Board to sell the old bath tub out of this house to Jake Chapman .for the sums of $4.00, the Board approved of this sale. The Clerk was isntructed to a Resolution asking for appraisers, ready—far t-h°e-Go°unc.1, in order thet the old Lemon property might be sold. Coal bids for the coal for the various city buildings werereceived and referred to the City Purchasing Agent and the City Engineer for tabulation and recommendation. The International Harvester asked for permission to place a set of steps at their 13th Street entrance of their plant, and the Board asked the International to get their plans ready and then presenttth;em- totthe • Board for their approval. Mr. Hanger of the Holmerden Company appeared before the Board to demonstrate ,a machine and disinfect which he guaranteed to rid the City Building of bugs, this machine and 30 gallon of disinfect was ordered at a cost of ` 64.50 with the understanding that ir after using 30 to 60 days , it was not satisfactory, the entire outfit could be returned at no cost what soever to the city. - Mrs. Weaver of the Greyhound Bus Station was before the Board seeking permissi.on . to park 2 busses on North 8th Street in front of Bar 39 during;; the noon and evening meal hours , and stated that this was only to be a temporary arrangement , as they were trying to 250 secure a new location wherein the could be off the street entirely. The Board granted this request for a temporary stand if the same was agreeable to the property owners. The question of Automobile and...Compensation Insurance was discussed by the Board and it was learned through Mr. Hess that all city insurance had been let on a three year basis and divided amongst the agents and the Board felt that if the insurance had been divided on this basis , that they should carry out the agreement of the former administration, and allow the policies to remain as they are providing the rates were correct. Mr. Hess was before the Board in regards to a claim for a rum made by the Fire Department to the home of William Beemer on the National Road West , qnd stated that this man was an employee of the Light Plant and was in very poor circumstances and wondered if it were at all possible to have this bill cancelled. Fire Chief Harry Williams stated that they did not do anything at this fire asathe garage was burned down when they arrived and that since the call had been sent in by a neighbor, without the knowledge of Mr. Beemer, he was in favor of cancelling the claim, this action was approved by the Board and the claim of $50.00 against Mr. Beemer was ordered cancelled. City Attorney Kelley was instructed to file suit against°:.the Indemnity Insurance Co. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for judgement on account of the fire works accident in Glen Miller Park.
