City of Richmond, Indiana,
Friday May 8, 1936.
The Board of Pubic Works and Safety of the City
of Richmond, Indiana, met in the office of said
Board, Friday May 8, 1936 at 9 :00 AM. Messrs. Josepi
M. Walterman, Simeon Hodgin and William Kelley,Jr.
being present the following proceedings were had,
to-wit :
Minutes of the preceeding meeting were approved
as read in Council.
The Board decided to award the contracts for car
as follows :
Police Department, W. E. McWhinney Co. 0485.00
Street Dept. Irwin Chevrolet Co. 428.00
A request for lights on a propsed playgrounds on
Ridge Street was denied since the Board was informed
that the said playgrounds was to be commercialized,
and the Board did not feel that they should furnish
free lights for any such project.
The Board ordered the Neon Stop Signs, which were
formerly located at West Fifth and Main Street , place
at West Main and Easthaven Avenue and Main and National
Road West.
The Stop lights at West 5th and Main were ordered
left on 24 hours a day.
A $68.00 bill from the C. & 0. Railroad on account
of expense connected with a sewer was referred to
McKechnie Peirce Co. for payment.
The Clerk was instructed to place the necessary add
for the disposal Of the house:- at the new radio
station.
The City Purchasing Agent was instructed to get
prices on new awnings for the City Building.
The tennis courts in Glen Miller Park were ordered
to be placed in playing condition as soon as possible.
City Engineer Hodgin reported that the County
Commissioners had acted favorably on the appropriation
of $1,600.00 for an aereal for the new radio station.
Mr. Hodgin also reported that ,he had received a
letter from the WPA, rescinding their approval of the
Airport Project .

A delegation of Citizens appeared before the Board
requesting that the City open West Main Street from
Easthaven Avenue to Salisbury Road, this delegation
was informed that they should more properly present
their request to the Count Commissioners , since
only some 600 feet of the requested opening was in
the City Limits.
Mr. Dick Gimble of the Y.M.C.A. was before the
Board in regards to the soft ball diamonds in Glen
Miller Park, he suggested that stone dust not be
placed on these diamonds this year as it had proven
unsatisfactory, although requested by the players
in the past year. The Board decided to try to have
the infield sodded and also placed Mr. Shinn,
foreman at the park in charge of the schedules for
the different leagues.
Councilman Brehm appeared before the Board and
stated that if the privilage of using city cars
by the Light Plant employees was being abused, that
he was in favor of placing the name of the Plant
on all cars.
City Purchasing Agent Ray Stevens explained that
the Chief of Police and himself were in favor of
having the new police car equipped with a new non
skid tire and that these tire could be purchased
for $26.35 and the new tires on the Ford. The Board
decided to allow the Police Chief to purchase a set
of these tires. Fire Chief Williams also asked for
2 of these and the Board approved this.
Complaint was made about the hot water heater,
located in the basement of the City Building and
Mr. Stevens promised to have some one from the
Light Plant check the same.
The Board ordered a yellow curb painted at the
side entrance to Betty Kolpts home on North D Street,
also one at the rear entrance of the City Meat Market
at llth and Main Streets .
An agreement between the Pennsylvania Railroad and
the City of Richmond as to sewer right of way was
approved and signed by the B d. /VG,w/ ,,,
Claims to the amount of $18, 601.80 were allowed
after which the Board adjourned.
