Office of the Board of Works
City of Richmond, Indiana,
Friday April 24, 1936.
The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City
of Richmond, Indiana, met in the office of said Board
Friday April 24, 1936, at 9 :00 o' clock AM. Messrs.
Joseph M. Walterman, Simeon Hodgin and William Kelley, I/
Jr. being prsent the following proceedings were had,
to-wit :
The minutes of the preceeding meeting were approved
as read in Council.
The Board approved the awarding of the contract
for one new Plymouth Standard Coupe to Gilcrist, Inc.
the low bidder Q $430.95 and one 1930 Plymouth Coupe.
Mrs. Louis Paoline appeared before the Board in
regards to a sewer back of her home which she had
been assedsed for and which was not located deep
enough to carry off the water from her teller. City
Engineer Hodgin explained the situation and recommended
that the fee of $15.00 which had been paid for the
privilege of tapping another sewer be deducted from
the present assessment and that a claim be drawn
against the Account of Opening and Widenings, etc.
made payable to the Barret Funds. The Board adopted
this suggestion.
A petition to cut the curb at Northwest 5th and
Randolph was received from Marion Coulter, and Mr.
Hodgin stated that he had visited this location
and could see no reason for not granting this
permission, acting on this report the Board granted
Marion Coulter permission to cut said curb.
A representative of the West Disinfectant Co.
was before the Board with a proposition to install
their equipment in the toilets in the parks and
the Beard instructed Mr. Burkhardt to investigate
some of the differant location where these were
installed and if the were found satisfactory, he
was authorized to have them installed in the Parks.
Fire Chief Harry Williams reported that bugs and
vermin were becoming very bad- in the building and
that the firemen were congtantly fighting them and
that they were all caused by the bunks which the
transients used in the basement . The Board discussed
the proposition of discontinueing the use of these
bunks for transients, but no definate action was take.
Mr. Williams also asked for permission to have the
fire truck at No. 4 repainted, the Board granted this
request and also ordered the Building Inspector' s car
painted.

The Board ordered all City Automobiles under the
jurisdiction of the Board lettered to read,"City of
Richmond" , and further ordered that no city cars
should be used for any purpose other than official
ctiy business, and that when it was necessary to
use any of thees cars for trips outside the city
of Richmond, that permission must first be secured
from the Board.
The Clerk was instructed to notify all of the
members of the Common Council of this action.
The Board instructed Superintendent of Streets
Albert Burkhardt to have the men engaged in marking
traffic lines on the street, to arrange to do this
wok at nights after the heavy traffic was over,
believing that much better progress could be made
when there were no cars narked on the streets.
Claims to the amount of 44, 678.17 were allowed
after which the Board adjourned.
