The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in the office of the Board of Public Works, Friday March 6, 1936, at 9 :00 o' clock I/ A.M. Messrs. Joseph M. Walterman, Simeon Hodgin and William Kelley, Jr. being present the following proceedings were had to-wit : The minutes of the preceeding meeting were approved as read in Council. The Mayor read a communication from the Department of Commerce that the Aviation Program of the Department ends officially June 30, 1936, City Engineer Hodgin reported that Mr. Wentz of the WPA had informed him that no additional grants would be made until::_after July 1st, Mr. Hodgin was requested to see Mr. John Nixon inregards to the lease on the Airport Property. The Board ordered safety lines painted at the cross walks around the different public schools and instructed the Clerk to communicate with Mr. Bate and try to have the teachers train the children to use these cross walks. The Market Master stated that it was time to receive bids for the renting of the concession for ice at the market . The Board instructed the Clerk to have bids for this concession ready for the date of March 20, 1936 . Fire Chief Harry Williams asked permission of the Board to purchase 3 miles of #10 hard drawn copper wire, to be used on the alarm system. The Board granted this permission. A communication was received from Mrs,John Hinskey in regards to an arc light at the corner of 9th and Richmond Ave. The Board did not feel that there were sufficient houses at this location to justify an,arc-'_ light , but they were going to investigate through the Light Plant and see if it were possible to install a light at this location which would be cheaper than an arc light . The Board discussed the proposition of removing the two old houses from the Glen Miller Park and moving the present occupants to the old Lemon property on Main Street, and the Clerk was instructed to give notice to the present occupants of the Lemon property. The question of the amount of food being served the prisoners in the City Jail and the Board decided that the City was not getting enough food for the money that 211 being spent , and decided that each prisoner should receive at least an ordinary lunch, and that if this could not be had for 20/ then the amount should be raised to 25/ and if there was any charge for delivering this food to the jail, one of the police on duty should carry this food and save the added expense.
