Office of the Board of Works
City of Richmond, Indiana,
Friday November 8, 1935.
The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City
of Richmond, Indiana, met in the office of said
Board, Friday N, vember 8, 1935, at 9 :00 o ' clock A.M.
Messrs. Joseph M. Walterivan, Simeon Hodgin and
William Kelley, Jr. being present the following
proceedings were had to'-irrit :
The minutes of the preceeding meeting were approved
as read in the Council Chamber.
City Engineer Hodrzin reported that he had talked
with the County Commissioners and that they had
promised to donate ` 1,000.00 next year towards the
purchase of a new radio transmitter for the police.
The Clerk was instructed to prepare an ordinance
for the appropriation of 412,000.00 for the purpose
of constructing a Street Department garage.
City Engineer Hodgin and Superintendent of Streets
Burkhardt stated that they had tabulated the bids on
the truck for the street department and had made a
thorough investigation as to the operating cost of
the different trucks and wished to recommend to the
Board that the Chevrolet truck be purchased at a
bid price of $795.00. The Board adopted this
recommendation.
Chief of Police Henry Vogelsong appeared before the
Board and asked for permission to purchase a new car
for the Police Department and stated that since the
County Tax Adjustment Board had seen fit to eliminate
3500.00 from the Police Budget for 1936, that he
felt that we should purchase this new car.::"The.-Board
approved of this and instructed the Clerk to prepare
the proper legal advertising and to include one
short wave receiver in the add.
Dr. Walter Crum of the School Board appeared before
Board and desired to express his and the Boards apprec-
iation for the prompt cooperation of the Board of Worts
in the Drive Safely Movement .
The Board decided to accept the offer of the Hoosier
Motor Club to furnish School Zone signs free ofecharge
but they also thought that the signs' would be much
better if the sharp corners were cut off, and the
Clerk was instructed to write the Hoosier Motor Club
and ask their permission to cut these corners off.

Mr. A.M.Gardner appeared before the Board in
regards to a contract entered into by the City
and Levi S.Miller regarding the cost of installing
water lines to the property, after a discussion on
the question it was agreed that the cost be divided
between the City and Mr. Miller.
The Board granted Mr. E.F.Rodefeld permission to
cut the curb in front of Lot I2 in the Kinsey 'addtn.
A communication was read from Donald Graham of
the PWA in regards to the misunderstanding between
Ma Irmscher and Sons and the men employed on the
Sewage Treatment Works, and the Board felt that
this letter did not clear up the question and
instructed the Clerk to write Mr. Graham and ask
that some representative of the PWA be sent here
to interview the men employed and set up some
definate ruling to determine the difference between
skilled and semi skilled workmen.
City Engineer Hod-rin reported that the Planning
Commission had visited the lot owned by Garth
Pilgrim at South 13th and H Streets and had decided
upon the advice of Mr. Gardner that there was no
other course open for the city than to issue a
building permit to Mr. Pilgrim for this lot.
Mr. C.W.Trine of the Tryon Sign Co . located at
North llth and E Streets appeared before the Board
with a request that he be allowed sufficient yellow
curb at this location to allow him to unload and
load trucks . The Board granted this Permission
with the understanding that Mr. Trine would take
care of the painting and maintaining of the yellow
lined
The Board of Public Works and Safety whole heart-
edly endorsed the Drive Safely Campaign now in
progress .
The Board approved Estimate No. 6 on the Sewage
Treatment Project , as follows :
Max Irmscher and Sons $22, 709 . 58
Mc Kechnie®Pierce Co . $14, 715.05.
Elmer. McBride of 302 North 8th Street was before
the Board requesting a yellow curb in front of his
garage on North B Street , and this was granted with
the understanding that Mr. McBride make arrangements
to cut the curb at this location as soon as possible.
Claims to the amount of = 39 ,372. 56 were allowed
after which the Board adjourned.
