HomeMy Public PortalAbout10-18-1935 172 Office of the Board of Works City of Richmond, Indiana, Friday October 18, 1935. The Board of Public Works and Safety met in the office of said Board, Friday October 18, 1935, at 9 :00 o' clock A.M. Messrs. Joseph M. Walterman, I/ Simeon Hodgin and William Kelley, Jr. being present the following proceedings were had to-wit : Minutes of the preceeding meeting were approved as read. Proof of delivery of one drum of Insecticide being furnidhed be the Jix Manufacturing Co . the Board instructed the Clerk to have said compsny fill out voucher and present to the Board for approval. Specifications for the new radio transmitter were recieved from William Weller of the Police Radio, and the Clerk was instructed to prepare an appropriation ordinance for the Council. State Policeman Loren Grimm asked for a yellow curb in front of his home on North A Street to be used for parking a State Police Car.Apnroved. The C. & O. Railroad asked to have a yellow curb placed at the entrance to the passenger station, the Board granted this request . Superintendent of Streets Burkhardt asked permission of the Board to purchase a new truck for the Street Department , and the Board instructed the Clerk to prepare the legal advertisement for the same. City Engineer Hodgin gave the Board figure for the different WPA projects and after a discussion Mr. Hodgin agreed to see all of the members of the Common Council and explain the question to them and give the figures agreed upon to the Clerk , who should prepare an ordinance for Monday October 18, 1935. I/ Mr. Hodgin also reported that it was desired to open Southwest B Street from 16th to Easthaven Ave. as a part of the PWA. Projects . The Board gave their approval. Mr. Bate of the School City agreed to dedicate and additional strip of ground about 5 feet wide on the above project . I 73 Mr Bate and Chief of Police Vogelsong brought up the question of replacing the school zone signs throughout the city and it was agreed that if the City would furnish the signs, the school officials would assume the work of placing them in position, the Beard agreed to this and instructed the Clerk to get prices on these and submit same to the Board. Mr. Charles Beck headed a group of carpenters who were employed on the Sewage Disposal Plant, and came before the Board to complain that on Tuesday October 15, around 20 carpenters who were being paid $1.20 per hour were laid off and 24 hours later Mr. Irmscher tried to hire these men for the same work at $.80 per hour, Mr. Beck stated that it was the belief of the men that the PWA scale was being violated. Mr.Irmscher having been invited to attend the Board meeting and explain his side of the question stated that he was abiding by PWA rules in offering these men employment at this price. After some discussion amongst all parties involved it was agreed that the men should go back to work at once, and all the ouestions involved be referred to some one higher up in the PWA organization for a decision, and if it was decided that Mr. Irmscher was wrong in his understanding of the PWA scale, then he would make whatever scale that was set retroactive to all men employed:. Claims to the amount of $1,733.58 were allowed after which the Board adjourned. Pr sident of the Board. Attest : City Clerk. L7unc pro tune. Building Inspector Edward Higgs submitted an estimate of replacing the ceiling in the rear of the Police Station of $48.00. The Board approved an order to have this work done.
