HomeMy Public PortalAbout08-16-1935 154 Office of the Board of Works City of Richmond, Indiana, Friday August 16, 1935. The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in the office of said Board, Friday August 16, 1935, at 9 :00 I/ o'clock A.M. Messrs. Joseph M. Walterman, Simeon Hodgin and William Kelley, Jr. being present the following proceedings were had, to-wit: The minutes of the preceeding meeting were approved as read. The Clerk was instructed to hold the appropriation ordinance until after a decision was made on the question of the city purchasing grounds for a base ball diamoPds. Superintendent of Streets Burkhardt asked the pleasure of the Board in the matter of the stage elevation at Roosevelt Hill which was used for the Civic Minstrel and other entertainment and could either be rented for $60.00 or purchased outright for $143.95. The Board decided that since this same elevation could be used for several years, it would be good policy to purchase same and so ordered. Mr. Robert Reid of the Palladium Publishing Co. asked that a yellow line be painted in front of the entire front of the Palladium, a discussion on this request revealed that there were at this time to much yellow curb and it was decided not to take any action on this request until after the traffic survey has been made. A petition for a curb in front of lots No.26-27 Coffin addition was rejected due to the financial condition of the owner of said lots. Mr. Oliver Knode of 23 North 9th Street appeared before the Board with a suggestion that the alleys north of Main be made one way alleys and was informed by the Board that such was already the rule. Mr. Floyd Briethaupt asked permission of the I/ Board to have an inspection made of the stoker in the 8ity Building in order to place same in proper condition for the coming winter, said inspection to cost $7.50. The Board decided to do nothing along this line until after they had received a report from the Neiwoehner Plumbing Co. as to the condition of the boiler. 155 On account of the many complaints in regards to labor conditions and the hiring of out of town men on botbe: the Sewage Treatment Plant and the Sewer, the contractors and goverment inspectors and engineers together with Mr. Springer of the Indiana State Employment office were called in and the various complaints aired and discussed after which it was decided to with hold any action until after the next Board meeting at which time the goverment engineer would be ready to make a full report as to the residence of the men employed. Claims to the amount of $1,975.41 were allowed. after which the Board adjourned. jPresident of the Board. Attest: 247, rz7 City Clerk.
