The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in the office of said Board, Friday July 26, 1935, at 9 :00 o ' clock ..M. Wessrs . Joseph M. Walterman, Simeon Rodin and - William Kelley, Jr. being. present , the following proceedings were had, to-wit : The minutes of the preceeding meeting were approved as read. Citj Engineer Hodgin upade a report on the condition of the blind alley in the rear of 263 Southwest 1st Street and stated that if this alley were scraped • . and a treatment of calcium chloride applied it would Place it in satisfactory condition. The Board so ordered. The arclia•ht which was Petitioned for on North 8th between F & G Streets was denied since the Board did not feel that this location was any Poorly lighted than numerous other places in the City. Assistant Superintendent of Streets Schnieder was . instructed to look over the city for vacant lots on which the weeds should be cut and to notify the owners of said lots to cut the weeds on same . The street department was ordered to place a safe barrier in frontof the open hole in the lot on the east side of South 5th just below C Street and notify the owners that said barrier was charged to them. • George Baker was granted permission to cut the curb pt the corner of Northwest 1st and Pearl Street . Communication was read from Clifford Haworth in re.gares to the disputed bill left over from the former administration • and the same was referred to the City Attorney. Corkins acct . City Engineer Elodnjn reported teat he had been in touch with the County Officials in regards to an additional appropriation for the buildin'! of a new radio station and they had informed him that they were in doubt if they could legally make any appropriation • Cor such purpose but they would be willing to contribute -. to the maintainance cost . A communication was read from the Indiana i-ailwa.y Company stating that it -as impossible for the Dayton and Western cars to use the route proposed in their • former proposal and suggested that the city approve the following route for the Dayton and Western cars ; • • 150 Westbound cars over Main street to 20th, thence north over ',Oth to North. E, thence west on B to the present freight house . Eastbound cars ; doom north D street to 5th, thence south on 5th to Train, thence east on Main through city. City Attorney Kelley was instructed to draw in an ordinance for the approval of Council covering these routes , and to make a contract with. the two companies and include in said contract a clause providing for the Proper bonding of the rails . Mr. D. C. Hess, Su-nerintend ent of the Light Plant asked the Boards approval to install a new 4 amphere incandescant lamp on North D between 10th and llth instead of the usual arc light . The Board aa_ve :;their approval on this chsn -e . • Mr. Hess also sought the approval of the Board as . to the type of standards to be used on Fort Wayne Ave . from Main to D St--•eets ; and asked permission to install • a different type on West 5th from Main to Richmond Ave. The Board also approved this request . The ceestion of ornamental lights on Southwest A from 5th to 7th Streets was discussed and lights for these two blocks ordered installed. Mr. Hess presented the figure for the cost of • V • installing the traffic lights at South Cth and Streets .Which was :;?42 .20, the Board then instructed Mr. Hess to prepare an estimate on placing the lights at 16th and Main Streets so that they would really protect this corner, and tUhe Board -would then ask the Council for an appropriation to cover this cost .
