Office of the Board of 'Works
City of Richmond,. Indiana,
Friday May 31, 1935.
The Board of Works of the City of Richmond,
Indiana, met in the office of said Board, Friday .
May 31,1935, at 9 :00 o ' clock A.M. Messrs . Joseph
M.Walterman, Simeon :Hodgin,-,and '�Jilliam K_elley,Jr.
being present the following proceedings were had, ' 11/
to-wit :
Minutes of the preceeding meeting were read and r •
approved. - .
A reouest From the American Legion for the remission
of the license fee for a circus=was denied, since the
Board had no authority to exempt any one from the •
payment of this license fee.
The Women Relief Corp was granted permission .to
sell flags on the street on Flag Day.
Building Inspector Edward Higgs was instructed to
investigate the condition of the flagstaff. on the
City Building and make arrangements to have same
Placed in condition, that a flag .me be flown from
same .
A communication was read from the Richmond Real'
Estate Board regarding the dump on South 16th Street
and Superintendent of Streets Burkhardt was instructed
to use every care that this refuse was well covered.
The Board of Works ordered the payment of all
monies received from the sale of cinders at the •
light plant, turned over to the City Purchasing
Agent .
City Engineer Hodgin asked permission to turn •
• over to the Park Department , one Ford Touring car
which had been used in his. department . The Board •
granted this permission.
A motion w s made and carried that we have a traffic
survey .made and adopt the recommendations of the
Engineer in charge of the survey.
Mr. Robert Reid appeared before the Board and
stated that he had been able to raise 000.00 from .
the Retail' Merchants Association toward the finac-
ing of the Civic '_1in.stsel and asked the Board to
spend = 316 .00 for 3 crystal microphones and ',p74. 00
for elevation on the stage , the Board told Mr. Reid .
to go ahead and get his show in shape and if any
additional sound equipment that it would be taken
care of .

. . The question of 'the City furnishing free current 1
for,hhe decorative lights to be used on Main Street
at Christmas time was ordered referred to Mr. Hess
of' the Municipal Electric Lighting and Power Plant .
with the thought in mind that it might be possible
to leave the ornamental lights turned off for part
of the evening while the decorative lights were on
and in this way balance the current consumption, so
as to avoid the payment of any additional light
bill..
There being no further business to come before
the -Board, it adjourned. Claims allowed 065. 62 .
