HomeMy Public PortalAbout03-26-1935 104 Office of the Board of Works City of Richmond, Indiana, Tuesday March 26, 1935. The Board of Works of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in the offices of said Board, Tuesday March 26, 1935 at 9 :00 o ' cluck A.M. I/ Messrs. .Joseph M. Walterman, Simeon Hodgin, and William Kelley being present the following proceedings were had, to-wit : Minutes of the preceeding meeting were read and approved. City Engineer Hodgin reported that he had decided on a Ford car for the engineers office, he also stated that the Water Works Company was now laying the water mains on North West 17th Street . Mayor Walterman stated that he had a petition for a water main extension on South 5th and Q. Street, but no action was taken on this petition by the Board. A request for an arc light at the point on North West 13th between Main Street and the National Road this request was referred to the City Engineer and the Superintendent of the Light Plant for their investigation. The Clerk read several names of individuals who were interested in securing the use of certian property of the City for gardening purposes, the Board ordered these people be referred to Mr. Burkhardt, Superintendent of Streets. Fire Chief Harry Williams appeared before the Board and stated that he had a vacancy on the Fire Department due to the pensioning of Everett Ogburn, and that he recomended the name of Beryl McConaha for this vacancy, Chief Williams also stated that there was also a vacancy for a First LL:eutenant and that he recomended Earl Miller for this promotion. A motion was made by Mr. Hodgin and seconded by Mr Kelley, that the recomendations of the Chief be accepted. Mr Now6rd ' Dill of the Watev Works Company was before the Board in regards to the water main extension on South 0 Street between 9th and 14th and the Board ordered the Clei°k' to notify the Company to make this extension. 105 The Mayor stated that it was his opinion that some effort should be made to fight the hordes of mosquitoes that infested our City and asked the Clerk to write to the United States Department of Health, in aneffort to obtain the cooperation and advice of the Goverment . The Mayor set aside the week of April 1 - 6 as clean up week and asked the press to give this notice to the public . Mr. Wilfred Jessup appeared before the Board in the interest of the Dayton Purification Systems Inc . and presented a petition to the Board requesting that a Board of Engineers be appointed to investigate the different types of systems . Mr Hodgin explained that the very thing that was reouested by Mr. Jessup, was now being done by Mr. Chas . H. Hurd.
