Office of the Board of Works
City of Riohmond, Indiana,
Tuesday March 5, 1935 .
The Board of Works of the City of Richmond,
Indiana, met in the offices of said Board Tuesday
March 5, 1935, at 9 :00 o' clock A.M. The Messrs .
Joseph M. Walterman, Simeon Hodgin and William
• Kelley, Jr. being present, the following proceedings
were had, to-wit :
The minutes of the preceeding meeting were 'read
and approved.
Bids for the removal of the bell in number 4
hose house were rec6ived. from the following;
Garfield Dixon =$10 .00 and the salvage .
Gus Oberle' s Sons 9:SO �and the salvage .
the Board then ordered that the bid of Oberle's
Sons; be accepted.
The estimate for the installation of hot water
in the Police Garage was presented and was found
to be $18 .00, the Board on recomendation of Chief
Vogelsong, decided to let this job rest until next
fall .
A petition for an Arc Light at the corner of
South 12th and I Streets , the members of the Board
decided that since there were so many requests for
Arc Lights, that it would be a good idea for the
Board to visit these locations at night and they
would be better able to determine if alight was
realy needed.
Mr. Burkhardt of the Street Department reported •
that the property owners on Fourth and lYain, wished
to have charge of the removing of the hitch. racks,
at this corner and retain the pipe as salvage .
Mr. Ray Steven City Purchasing. Agent, appeared
before the Board and stated that he had received
prices on four different typewriters and presented
the figures to the Board for their decision, the
Clerk explained that although there was no money
in the budget to pay for this machine this year,
he had secured the promise of Councilmen Mow,
Snavely, Schnieder and Wagner, that they would
allow this in next years budget, the Board then
ordered Mr .. Stevens to purchase the Underwood
machine, for the office of the City Clerk. Mr .
Stevens also asked its he were to purchase the coal
for the City Building and the Board inquired if
it were possible to use the same coal as was used
at the light plant and Mr Stevens was instructed

to investigate and see if this coal could be used
and if so he should order the same .

City Engineer Hodgin informed the Board that
he needed and wis1}ed to purchase a new car for his
department, but that he did not want to trade in
the old car until after the sewage treatment plant
was completed, and that his reason for this was
that there would be clot of hard use for the car
and he hated to subject; a new car to this hard
use . The Board granted Mr. Hodgins request and the
Clerk was ordered to prepare a legal advertisment
for the same .
Street Superintendent Burkhardt stated that it
was necessary for some of his employees to attend
a City trial at Winchester and wanted to know if
they should be paid their regular wages by the
City or if the witness fees would be sufficient
wage . The Board decided that the City should pay
them their regular wage and the witness fees 'should
be returned to the City.
Claims- to the amount 281.58
There being no further business to come before
the Board, it adjourned.

Add. Following a discussion concerning different
people asking to see the books of the M.E.L.& P.P.
the Board instructed Mr. Hess to allow no one
outside the Administration, to see said books
without a court order.
