Office of the Board of Works
City of Richmond, Indiana,
Friday March 1, 1935. _
The Board of Works of the City of Richmond,
Indiana, met in the offices of said Board Friday
March 1, 1935, at 9 :do o'clock A. M. The Messrs .
Joseph M. Walterman, Simeon Hodgin and William
Kelley, Jr being present the following proceedings
were had, to-wit :
The minutes , of the previous .meeting were approved.
City Engineer Hodgin reported that he had taken
the question of installing water main on Ross Street,
up with Mr. Dill of the Water Works Company and that
Mr. Dill was now in touch with his New York office
on this question and would report their decision to
the Board at an early date .
The Mayor suggested that the old hitching racks
located at Fourth and Main Streets , be removed, the
Board ordered the Street department to look after
this and to make arrangements with the owner and
if the City removed them the salvage should belong
to the City. r P,
The Police department requested that hot water
be installed in the police garage for the washing
of cars . The Board ordered Building Inspector Higgs
to get an estimate on the cost of this and report
to the Board at their "next meeting.
Mr. Lee Ridgeway, holder of the garbage contract
for the City appeared before the Board and offered
to do the collecting of garbage on the West Side
with his own trucks . The Board then ordered Mr.
Ridgeway to place the proper number of trucks and
the proper number of men on each truck and proceed
with the collection of the garbage as the contract
specified.
Councilman Wagner, Chairman of the Committee on
Public Property, 'eve`rs , treets and Alleys , appeared I/
before the Board and reported that his committee
recomended to the Board that Mr. William Morrey be
retained as the man in charge of the Golf Course
and that he recieve a salary of D1,500. per year
and be granted permission of the Board to live in
the Superintendents house , also that he be given
the responsibility of keeping the records of the
bookings at the park. The Board informed Mr. Wagner
that they would decide on this question after the
planning commission met and approved the proposed
improvements on the course.

City Engineer Hodgin reported that in his opinion
the most practicle way to handle the dredging of the
lake, was to level off the bottom and rebuild the
spillway in such a manner as to control the depth of
lake .
Councilman Wagner also reported that his committee
recomended the discharge of Mr. Shinn, florist at
Glen Miller Pork and the abandment of the Greenhouse
as an economy measure .
Doctor H.D.Clark, holder of the Dog Pound contract
with the City appeared before the Board and stated
that he had collected 105 dogs destroyed 71 and had
7 reclaimed.
,Claims to the amount of y201 .16 were allowed .
There being no further business to come before the
Board, it adjourned.
