HomeMy Public PortalAbout02-26-1935 91 Office of the Beard of Works City of Richmond, Indiana, Tuesday February, 26, 1935. The Board of Works of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in the offices of said Board Tuesday February 26, 1935, at 9:00 o'clock A.M. The Messrs, Joseph M. Walterman, Simeon Hodgin and William Kelley, Jr. being present the following proceedings were had, to-wit: The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved as corrected. City Engineer Hodgin reported that he had prepared plans for the shed in Glen Miller Park and had submitted same to Mr. Walter Reid of the F.E.R,A. for his approval and that as soon as this approval was recieved, he would proceed with the work. Mr. Hodgin also reported that he was trying to arrange for the straightening of the street line on North west 17th. Street and that the property owners were trying to arrange this amongst themselves. The Clerk reported that he was unable to find any state law or city ordinance that compelled the Board of Works to meet twice. a week, and the Board decided that aey would continue to meet twice a week until after the date of March 18. The Board recieve& a propositionof the Brieth- haupt Electric Company on the installation of an automatic draft in the boiler, of the City Building, the. Board decided that since the winter was almost over, they would postpone any action on this until next fall. A representative of the R.L.Polk Publishing Company appeared before the Board in regards to the new issues of the Richmond City directory and the Board ordered 5 copies of the new issue at a cost of$15.80 per copy. II/ Lee Ridgeway appered before the Board to answer to complaints that had been lodged against him pertaining to the garbage collection contract for the City. «92 The members of the Board questioned Mr. Ridgeway-as to :the number of trucks he was using and the number of men employed by him also if he had sub-let any part of the contract to Carl Patt- erson, Mr. Ridgeway answred that he was using two trucks, one stationed at the office for pick-ups and one used in the collection og garbage and 7 . I/ men and that he had employed Mr. Patterson on a salary basis and had turned over the collection of garbage on the west side to him.. The Board decided to take these comple.ints under advisement. Dr. J. C. Blossom appeared before the Board and stated that he was wanting to build some new houses in Fairview on Ross Street but he was interested in knowing if it were possible to get water maind on this street before building these houses. This problem was referred to the City Engineer for investigation. Mr. Hess appeared before the Board and wanted to know if it was the intention of the Board to allow a 10% charge for overhead on labor charges. The Board decided that for the present at least there should be no change in the original proposition made between the Board and the M. E. L. & P. P. Mr. Hess also stated that during the former administration he had been ordered to turn off a part of the lights in Reevestonand asked permission of the Board to turn these lights on again and stated that the cost to the City would be only $46.65, the Board granted this request. Claims to the amount of $253.67 were allowed. There being no further business to come before the Board, it adjourned. Attest; Pres dent of the Board. City Clerk.
