AUTHORIZING THE 2017 SEWER REBATE PROGRAM
IN THE BOROUGH OF CARTERET
WHEREAS, The Borough of Carteret established a sewer user fee ordinance for the purpose of
covering the cost of the Borough's sewer system: and
WHEREAS, The Mayor and Council desire to implement relief to the senior citizens,
pennanently and totally disabled residents and veterans or their surviving spouse in the form of a
$100.00 sewer rebate for the 2017 calendar year; and
WHEREAS, the following ocnditions have to be metin order to qualify for the $100.00 sewer
rebate program:
1. The property must be owner occupied as of January 1, 2017 as a single- family residential
unit.
2. Property taxes and sewer user fees are not in arrears and must be current as of the date of
their application.
3. The rebate application must be filed with the tax collector's office on or before
November 15, 2017.
4. Veterans who were honorably discharged with a proper DD -214
5. Widows of veterans with honorable discharge papers, spouse's death certificate, no
income requirement, no age limit.
6. Senior citizen must be 65 years of age or older by December 31, 2017, adequate proof of
age must be supplied; no income requirement.
7. Permanently and Totally Disabled residents with Social Security Award certificate or
doctor's report of disability, proof of income, $45,000.00 or less excluding social security
with certain exceptions, no age limit.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council of The Borou_h of
Carteret, County of Middlesex, State of New Jersey, that the Tax Collector implement a 2017
Sewer Rebate Program for qualified resident owners as defined above and subject to the
Borough's guidelines.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the appropriate Borough Officials are authorized to issue
rebate checks accordingly, and report to the Governing body of all transactions.
