HomeMy Public PortalAboutCatherine Holt - 100 years PROCLAMATION WHEREAS: Catherine J. Holt, born on February 10, 1918, the daughter of Greek immigrants, James and Athena Constantino, moved to Watertown at age 12 with her parents and brother, Peter; and WHEREAS: Catherine attended Watertown High School but left to work in the family business, Kay's Bakery on Galen Street, during the Great Depression and served as the Secretary of the Bakers Union in Boston during the 1930's; and WHEREAS: Catherine subsequently received her G.E.D. diploma; and after watching her own children graduate from Boston College, she returned to school graduating from Newbury College, with honors, in 1982, at age 64; and WHEREAS: Catherine and the late Charles E. Holt were married on February 20, 1944, celebrating their 50th Anniversary in 1994; and WHEREAS: Catherine and Charles purchased a home on Eliot Street, the street where she grew up, on November 18, 1948, she lived there until she moved to the Elizabeth Seton Residence in Wellesley in 2017; there on Eliot Street she cared for her elderly parents, with her father living to his 100th birthday; and WHEREAS: Catherine is a faithful member of the Taxiarchae Greek Orthodox Church of Watertown and a former member and officer of the Watertown Ladies Philoptochos Benevolent Society; and WHEREAS: Catherine, affectionately known as Grandma Holt, is the mother of Barbara Holt Clarke, Framingham, and Leonard T. Holt, Watertown; the grandmother of Jennifer Athena Nicholson, Watertown, Leonard T. Holt, Jr., South Boston, Kenneth M. Holt, Watertown, Jonathan H. Clarke, Holliston and Philip H. Clarke, Newton; and the great-grandmother of William B. and Emma J. Nicholson, Watertown. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That the Town Council of the City known as the Town of Watertown extends its congratulations to CATHERINE J. HOLT of WATERTOWN ON HER 100TH BIRTHDAY IN WITNESS WHEREOF, we have Hereunto set our hand and caused the Great Seal of the Town of Watertown To be affixed on this 10th day of February 2018 ____________________________ Mark S.
