RESOLUTION NO. 23-047
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA, REQUIRING THE CITY TO SPONSOR
ALL SPECIAL EVENTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE CITY'S
ANNUALLY RECOGNIZED NATIONAL HOLIDAYS; SHOW THAT
SAID EVENTS ARE CO -HOSTED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSIONERS; PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF
RECITALS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Opa-Locka ("City") currently provides holiday-themed
and other special events within the community to promote entertainment, enjoyment and
engagement among the residents, staff and officials of the City; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission has determined that national holidays are of
such a significance and stature that they should be sponsored by the City and co -hosted
by the mayor and city commissioners; and
WHEREAS, the City desires to sponsor all special events associated with national
holidays; and
WHEREAS, the City's annually recognized national holidays shall include: New
Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth,
Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and
Christmas Day; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission finds it is the best interest of the City to
authorize the City Administrator to sponsor all special events associated with the City's
annually recognized national holidays, but also jointly show the Mayor and City
Commissioners as co -hosts for said events.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF OPA LOCKA, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1. RECITALS ADOPTED.
The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference.
SECTION 2. AUTHORIZATION
The City Commission of the City of Opa-Locka hereby authorizes the City to
sponsor all special events associated with the City's annually recognized
national holidays to include: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day,
Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day,

Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day, but also
show the mayor and city commissioners as co -hosts for such events.
SECTION 3. SCRIVENER'S ERRORS
Sections of this Resolution may be renumbered or re -lettered and corrections of
typographical errors, which do not affect the intent of this Resolution may be
authorized by the Interim City Manager, following review by the City Attorney,
without need of public hearing, by filing a corrected copy of same with the City
Clerk.
SECTION 4. EFFECTIVE DATE
This Resolution shall take effect upon the adoption and is subject to the approval
of the Governor or Governor's Designee.

Staff Summary:
History: The City currently provides holiday-themed and other special events within the community to
promote entertainment, enjoyment and engagement among the residents, staff, and officials of the city.
Current Activity: National holidays are of such a significant stature that they should be co -sponsored by all
members of the Commission.
Financial Impact - There is no financial impact for this resolution.
Proposed Action:
Staff recommends the City Commission approve the legislation approving all city held events in recognition of
a National Holiday be sponsored by the city.
