I would be a great candidate for this scholarship because not only I show love to my community
but I also show great leadership skills in my school, community and my church me and my peoples
go to church on New Year's Eve, and it means a lot and feels so good just going to church knowing
the church is going to do the countdown and the preacher takes his time and its so good. Similarly,
me and my siblings dance for the church and like I mime, and they praise dance, and it makes so
many memories especially now. Because we were young and now, we are older, and it feels good
to just know that I have a strong family that knows and loves God. We don't really do anything
but go to church and it makes my day and life a little brighter. We did a clothe donation and just
saw smiles on family faces when we handed them the shirts, the pants, and shorts. They were so
happy that they made me happy just to give people what I never had. I remember this one time
when we had to clean up Norwood twice man it was so messy, but we did it for our community
and the people that take care of the park. We did like this soup kitchen we had the people running
to the tables trying to get soup there was fighting and all it was funny this couple was fighting over
the soup because his girl finished her soup and wanted some of the guy soup which was funny it
was no serious altercation just minor, but that day was funny. We also did a college fair set up
setting up different colleges tables and getting souvenir is from other colleges and the knowledge
we got from them I got like 10 items in total from the tables had like a lot going on and different
schools coming in and a rush of students smiling faces and we had an organized fundraiser event
which was an experience of an lifetime so that is all my experience all in one of helping and giving
back to people in need stay blessed stay woke and stay humble. Pass out fans, tissue, and water
during service hours, collecting trash from the inside and outside of the church, taking out the
garbage. Serving food and drink after special services I also be Feeding the homeless Setting up
chairs, tables, and tents for special services for my church and with other programs called Kings
of Glory Inc. and S.W.A.G (Students With A Goal) I am Goal oriented Reliable Hard Worker Easy
to work with others. Decisive and have a Flexible schedule. I never had anything to begin with I
never had the freshest clothes or coolest shoes I can recall walking around with Shaq's on my feet
so it was so depressing everyone had Nikes and Jordan's. One day I was on google searching up
quotes for a project and I came across the quote above changed my perspective and outlook on
many materialistic and nonessential so called valuables in my life. The quote was so profound to
me that it forever shifted my mindset, I learned to appreciate what I did have in my life and stop
dwelling on the things I did not have. Once I mastered not caring about the aspect of my life and
how people perceived me by appearance, I found myself maturing more. Mentally I found myself
in a space where I realized it is not the clothes that make the man. People of our generation are
quick to judge and treat others simply, according to how they are dressed or able to afford. As a
distraction from my clothes, I acted out abruptly, rudely, and contentiously carefree. My middle
school life was very hard I didn't get the best test scores always in intensive classes always getting
in trouble by the teacher that was when I was a little kid that did know better but never cared about
the rules so I was bad my middle school year but when I went to high school my 94 grade year I
cleaned up a little bit so my big sister wanted me to do this program called KOG and I was like
what's that? so I went to the class and it was like a mentoring program for adolescent young
minority black males which is called Kings Of Glory and I joined the program it was the best
decision I ever made I started getting good grades I started getting honor rolls I helped the
community out a lot more, and the bond that the program had I met new people who helps me out
till this day still and I thank my sister for suggesting the program.I never had anything to begin

the program. Zachariah is actively serving as the organization's Vice President and is doing a remarkable
job leading the club in the right direction. As his mentor, I have seen many examples of his passion for
teaching with discipline and concern for others. Constantly he strives for success and takes all his
challenges head-on with a positive attitude. With a great personality, excellent communication skills, and
a desire to be a leader in his community, it is with great pleasure to acknowledge and recommend this
student for this Scholarship.
This young man is on a progressive path to graduating high school and attending a college of his
choice. Furthermore, Zachariah will graduate at the top of the class of 2023 and has completed over 400
hours of community service. He balances active participation in other organizations such as 5000 Role
Models of Excellence, Vikings Dance Theatre, and his church youth ministry, to name a few. I
wholeheartedly recommend this candidate for the Eta Nu Zetta Scholarship.
If you have any further questions regarding Zachariah's ability or this recommendation, please do
not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Dr. Elicel Similien

community for the community pick up. The task was supposed to clean up the waste and clutter on
the park grounds for a greater prepossessing and winsome view of the park for its actual nature
with the aid of taking its stains out. In this, I discovered the significance of assisting others
does not just enhance their contemporary condition but allows them to peer your thoughts for their
community and evokes them that will help you deliver your challenge to enhance the community.

To start off, I've always been fascinated by computers. When I was younger, my
parents gave me a computer and l spent most of my time playing games on it. I wanted
to major in computer science because I've always been fascinated by how computers
work. I enjoy being able to put my ideas into code and the sense of accomplishment
that comes from putting together a program that works. I'd always wanted to be able to
control the game and make it do whatever I wanted. When it came time to choose a
career, I had no idea what I wanted to do but knew I wanted to work with computers in
some capacity but I knew this would come with challenges.
But as with most challenges I encounter, I handle them in different ways. But in
this, no matter what field you're in, everyone faces challenges. For, as someone who's
invested in the field of informational technology, some of the challenges I face are
related to my chosen field. Also, I learned valuable skills to assist me with the various
Microsoft Office programs and other computer programs as well. Getting these
experiences was pretty challenging.
During my community service, The impact I believe my project had on the
community was the significance of the park visitors visiting the park. The visitors can
come and picnic, play and sit around a comfortable atmosphere. The visitors wouldn't
be disturbed by litter or animals around their space of comfortability and relaxation in
the park because of my community service project. I learned the importance of helping
others doesn't just improve their current condition but allows them to see your ideas for
their community and inspires them to help you carry your mission to improve the
community and help me towards my own goals.
Speaking of other goals, when I was in high school, I took a course called
Introduction to Digital Media with Dr. Anim, she showed us how easy it was to program
simple programs like printing out text on the screen or creating an interactive game
where the user could move around by clicking on different parts of the screen. After
taking this class, l knew that computer science was for me because of how much fun it
was! When I was studying at the Academy of Informational Technology at William H.
Turner Technical Arts, I had to learn how to use Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. These
were both pretty challenging programs to learn, but I was determined to get the
certification. Therefore, this is why a college degree would help me achieve even more
than a certification would. In doing this, now I'm glad I did it because now I'm able to use
these programs for work, personal projects and achieve many future goals.

BRIEFLY DESCRIBE YOUR COMMUNITY SERVICE EXPERIENCE, EXTRACURRICULAR AND/OR
LEADERSHIP ACTIVITIES (if additional space is required, please attach a separate sheet of paper):
Through Power U Center for Social Change, I canvassed the neighborhood and phone banked to
conduct surveys about communal issues to get a better understanding of what change our
community members would like to see in future. Then, if they were interested, I was able to recruit
them and play a prominent role in prepping students, teachers, and parents to speak at school board
hearings to address their concerns about the education system_ As a camp counselor, I served as a
role model for the students and provided them with academic support as needed. Lastly, as a
volunteer at Dr. Abramson's office I was responsible for filing documents, answering phone calls,
and stocking supply cabinets.

City of Opa-Locka Scholarship Essay
An essential component of student life is scholarships. They increase accessibility and
affordability for going to college. In other words, it increases the likelihood that
students —especially underprivileged ones —will earn a college degree without accruing huge
debts that will haunt them in the future. Many students would not be able to follow their career
aspirations without scholarships. As a student from a low-income household, scholarships are the
key to my future academic success.
To commence, I firmly believe that my unwavering passion for studying qualifies me for
this award. I have loved learning ever since I was a young child, and my academic prowess today
is a reflection of that. I consistently make the honor roll at Miami Northwestern and now obtain a
4.907/3.790 grade point average. Additionally, I recently earned an Associates of Arts degree
with the highest honors and a 3.9 grade -point average from Miami -Dade College. This
showcases my dedication to school as I am not only in the top 5% of my high school class, but
received an entire college degree upon my high school graduation. Moreover, I am deserving of
this scholarship because of my ability to persevere despite obstacles in my personal life. I took
the things that were said to "weaken" me and utilized them as a source of inspiration, whether it
was an unfortunate diagnosis in my family or the effect Covid had on my education. When my
aunt was diagnosed with Breast Cancer for the second time, it took an emotional toll on me. She
was the one who first explained what dual enrollment was to me in middle school and urged me
to participate. Seeing her being hospitalized frequently scared me, but I wanted to continue
making her proud, and by continuing to perform my absolute best, I was able to do so. There
were times where I thought she would not even live to see my graduation, but thankfully she did.
Also, Covid significantly altered the way in which students learned, and a lot of us found it
To Whom It May Concern:
It is with great pleasure that I recommend Mya Postell for this scholarship.
I first had the pleasure of meeting Mya in her Sophomore year, as a student in my Honors Algebra II class —
first virtually and then in -person. Since then, I've continued to maintain a student -teacher relationship with Mya
as an academic support and mentor.
In class, Mya made a positive impression and became a valuable member of our learning community.
Academically, Mya is determined to succeed, willing to be pushed to think beyond the information presented. In
Algebra 11, she regularly engaged in discussions which furthered her understandings around the mathematical
concepts, answers, misconceptions, and errors. Despite the complexities the study of mathematics often poses,
Mya never shied away from the challenges, always asking questions and seeking out the reasons "why." Mya's
steadfast determination has propelled her to never give up and consistently improve in her level of understanding
in mathematics.
Outside of the math classroom, Mya is a talented spoken word poet. Her interest in poetry has provided her
opportunities to interact with young people and mentors both within and outside of her local community. I've
seen poetry give Mya an outlet to share her voice in both personal expression and the advocacy of others; earning
her high scores and accolades.
Additionally, Mya is not afraid to be her own person nor swayed by peer pressure, while still earning the respect
of her peers and adults alike. She is natural leader and advocate among her peers. She has held leadership
positions in various honor societies, clubs, and student government. In Mya's Sophomore year, along with six of
her peers, she helped to create a student -led group (which I was an advisor to) called C.A.R.A, Change Agents for
Real Action. Their goal was to work with the various entities and individuals in charge of decision making within
the school to ensure that the needs of all students were heard, respected, and met. Within C.A.R.A, Mya engaged
in a community -based leadership structure that differed from a traditional hegemonic structure often found in the
school clubs and organizations she was involved with. Mya learned the importance of sharing the collective
responsibilities of leadership by deeply listen to the ideas of others, collaborate on solutions, and engage in
conversations with those she may not always agree. In turn, Mya has been able to take those ideas and use then as
the Second Vice President of Student Government.
Furthermore, Mya is the type of individual who leads with heart, always rising above, and bringing value to every
experience. It has been a joy to witness Mya's growth and maturity over the past few years as she navigates the
pressures and demands of high school while maintaining a healthy balance of commitment to her family, friends,
and various after -school activities.
Without hesitation, I recommend Mya Postell. III can provide you with any other information, please feel
free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Sara H. Weinberg

Dear Committee,
I am delighted to write this recommendation on behalf of Mya Postell.
Mya has been a student in the Medical Magnet program at Miami Northwestern for three years of
high school. As a senior, she is enrolled at Miami Dade College as a Dual Enrollment student. Mya
is an exceptional student with excellent grades resulting from her diligent work habits. I have
observed her grow into a poised and accomplished young woman.
Mya has superior interpersonal skills and works equally well independently or in a group setting.
She also displays good leadership skills as a member of multiple clubs and organisations at Miami
Northwestern, which include the Student Government Association (Vice President), National
Honors Society, and National Social Studies Honors Society (Rho Kappa) 1st Vice President. She is
very well -liked and respected by both her peers and her teachers.
Mya's vision for the world is a society free from all forms of oppression in which decisions are made
democratically and resources are utilized for the collective benefit of everyone. With that, she has
accumulated over 750 volunteer hours. She has accomplished this all while maintaining a weighted
4.89 grade point average.
Mya is an avid reader of romance novels and a published author. Her poetry book, "We All See the
Same Moon," can be purchased on Amazon. She aspires to become a college professor of English
and Sociology or African American Studies.
Therefore, I can confidently say that she is well -deserving of this scholarship.
Best Regards,
C/

To Whom It May Concern:
I am pleased to recommend Mya Postell for consideration for your scholarship. I have
known Mya Postell for the past three years, having served as her Community Service Liaison.
Over these years I have learned a great deal about her capabilities through different interactions
and discussions. I am confident she exudes the qualities required for this scholarship.
Mya completed over 300 hours of community service with Gospel Tabernacle Christian
Academy (GTC Academy). Gospel Tabernacle Christian Academy is a non-profit faith based
private school and childcare center located in the heart of Miami Gardens, Florida. During her
time with GTC Academy, Ms. Postell helped with preparing breakfast and lunch for the children,
reading stories, creating songs to help them learn their ABC's and numbers. She also made sure
to develop individual relationships with the kids so they always knew they could ask for help.
Her willingness to always do things before being asked made her stand out as a great volunteer. I
expressed that she can come back anytime she wants to help out with the kids.
Mya is a well-rounded student who not only excels in academics with a 4.903
unweighted GPA, which consists of academically challenging courses such as AP Classes and
Dual Enrollment courses through Miami Dade College, but has also set precedence in
extracurricular activities where she has taken on leadership positions. She is currently serving as
Second Vice President for Student Government Association (SGA), President of Fearless Voices
Poetry Club, Secretary of Health Information Project (HIP), Vice President of National Social
Studies Honor Society (Rho Kappa), and a member of National Honor Society, Medical Magnet
and Track and Field. Mya is a model student and a great leader for her peers.
I give Mya my highest recommendation for consideration for your scholarship.
Sincerely,
Arlicia Williams

Deanasia Franklin
Miami norland senior high school
14312 nw 17th path opa locka F133054
The prompt wanted to know why I believed I was a good candidate to receive this award.
I'm currently a senior in high school that has a plan, not only for my own future, but also a plan
for what I would want our own community to be like. I think outside of the box, I pay attention
to what's going on in our school's as well as in our neighborhoods. The best way I can put this
into perspective is by showing you all how my mind works. Alrighty, so let's picture this...
BOOM its year 2023, A new HBCU has just opened up right in the heart of Opa-locka. This Ivy
league university has some of the best of the best students applying. when I say the best? I mean
it. Miniature Albert Einsteins and Bill Nyes at the ripe ages of (17-20). Everyone has graduated
top 5% of their classes, Everyone has over 300+ community service hours, Everyone is the
president of all the honor society's at their high school. Tough pool of candidates right? Wrong.
What I'll do is make each and every candidate not only come up with, but also host a community
service event that uniquely incorporates the cultures of pre -assigned individuals from all over the
world (not just opa-locka). This event must be well thought out, there must be food, music, and
entertainment present and a minimum of 26 guest must attend. Why? The answer is pretty
simple, the United States of America is an incredible country filled with so many
underrepresented individuals and I feel like a we must all bind together to make this country
invincible. This project will without a doubt benefit all students looking to attend college as well
as those who are not. Our communities are filled with so many unique backgrounds of people,
this will gives them exposure even before stepping foot on their dream university. My plan is to
bring us all together, that's why I believe I'll be the best candidate for this award. I'm a woman
with a plan, who's going to form it into a reality.
The reason I believe having this amazing quality makes me a good candidate is because it
shows just how determined I am to make change. This scholarship will help me maneuver
through my 4 -year institution, as a minority funding college can be as complicated as pinning the
tail on a bull. Opa-locka is a community filled with so many different faces as well as
backgrounds of people. It's no doubt that you all are looking for a student who represents opa-
locka as a whole. When you step back and take a look at this community you see family. Family
who have lived here for years that come from all over, this is certainty what makes us deemed a
minority city. I want to learn more and I vow not to be selfish with this knowledge, I know that
the youth look up to individuals like make so I'll ensure to come back and be an amazing mentor
to as many children of my community as I possibly can. Thank you all so much for this
opportunity, speaking for the community... We greatly appreciate it.

To whom it may concern,
It is with pleasure that 1 compose this letter of recommendation in support of Deanasia
Franklin scholarship application.
Deanasia is one of the most well-rounded, determined and overly dedicated students I
have had the pleasure of teaching in my Cambridge Psychology class. I had the pleasure of
becoming Deanasia's teacher in November 2021, and despite her late entry into this
rigorous course her transition in the course seemed effortless. Her eagerness to jump
straight in and learn all that she can to prepare for her April exams was by far amazing. She
did great jumping in while learning and becoming accustomed to the Viking's way of life.
Her level of hard work, dedication, and obedient character is exactly what is needed
as an office aid. She is very well-spoken and keeps a positive attitude no matter the
challenges she is presented. Deanasia received my highest recommendation, and 1 can
attest to her character and motivation as a young lady who will be able to maneuver
through and adjust to any obstacles presented to her. She will prove to be a valuable asset
as a student office aid.
With Great Pleasure,
Ms.Wade
Cambridge AICE Psychology Teacher

To whom this letter may concern,
It is with great pleasure that I recommend Deanasia Franklin. I have had the honor of
having Deanasia as a student in the Cambridge program since 2020. In the 2 years that I have
known her, she has set herself apart from her peers with her drive to maintain excellence.
Deanasia has a hunger for knowledge and is fearless in her quest for knowledge. These are two
of the many qualities Deanasia possesses that I truly admire.
Besides being hungry and fearless, Deanasia continues to prove herself as an eager and
dedicated student who is equally respectful to and admired by her peers. She strives to motivate
her classmates through her leadership and words of encouragement. She is the embodiment of a
great student leader. It is an amazing talent to be able to bring out the best in others; she is able
and continues to do this.
As a Cambridge student, she is accustomed to working hard, meeting deadlines, thinking
critically, and communicating effectively. She is able to provide critical analysis and insight that
is valuable to any classroom. Undoubtedly, Deanasia will be a great asset to any higher learning
institution. Her positive attitude, humble spirit, and endless drive will benefit any university
significantly. It is my distinct honor to recommend Deanasia Franklin.
Sincerely,
Valecia Beaufort,
Cambridge Coordinator
